I know this is a long shot, since there has been no observable mechanic for it, but hear me out:
With all of the fighting in and around these structures, it would make sense that they would be damaged and destroyed in the process. This would drastically change the fights, as people would be more hesitant to use things like orbitals on just any corner of the map, as it would require the rebuilding of critical infrastructure after capturing a district.
Then, with enough firepower, this would give players the ability to change the course of the battle by taking down a favorite sniper nest. For example, there is one map that has a launch pad in the middle of the map, and has an objective "b" right next to it. Above the objective, there is a little bridge, immediately below the exhaust for the rocket's engine. A favorite place for people with mass drivers, lasers, and snipers.
Now, say, you have some guy in a tank, or a few soldiers with remote explosives or something, roll up and hit the bridge a few times, and the thing comes down, killing everyone underneath, and changing the shape of the fight. Now, if you want to get ambitious, move your aim sideways a bit, fire some more rounds, and bring the whole thing to the ground.
Now, whoever owns it after the fight needs to spend millions rebuilding it.
Now, I'm not saying we should be able to pound away an entire mountain (unless they give us the titan doomsday orbital, maybe? Yes please!), but it would make sense that if you have a bunch of people running around with tanks and playing with high explosives, it stands to reason that there will be a few buildings reduced to rubble piles, and it would make sense that some things will have to be rebuilt.
It would necessitate more strategy, less mindless blasting and give the guys in orbit a reason not to ***** about not being able to mindlessly blast the **** out of the ground.
Another thought would be to put an environmental damage modifier. The more environmental damage, the less productive a district becomes, until eventually it becomes uninhabitable, thus making it useless until a certain amount of damage goes down, and will affect productivity in near by districts.
Thoughts, I know. Still, would be nifty to see, and make the occaisional doomsday dr |
