Bullet dispersion affects "bullets deviation -áfrom intended flight path"
Both of These weapons effects have the potential to indevidualy (each on their own) have an affect on a given weapons effective range.
If i am increasing the bullet flight time, with sharpshooter skill, to X meters, yet the bullet dispersion of a given weapon only allows for an effective minimum of that weapon to be Y meters (X>Y). The there is no point for me to be wasting skill points to increase the sharpshooter skill any further.
So, as I said, the question is:-áare bullet dispersion and sharpshooter tied together?
The tying together of these skills could have been done in two ways:
1. (unlikely): the dispersion cone decreases as sharpshooter skill increases.
2. (most likely) bullet dispersion was precalculated to deliver an effective result at max sharpshooter level.
I am hoping that I have explained my question in a comprehensive enough way.
This question pertains to a particular weapons system: the SMG. This is because I cannot phisicaly see the weapon's bullet dispersion patern like one can with, say, an AR.
If bullet dispersion and sharpshooter are not tied together:
Can someone from CCP give me the statistic for "bullets deviation from intended flight path" in centimeters off center target as the minimum to maximum bullet divination ratio, so that I may calculate bullet dispersion.
This is important to me because I would like to know if it is worth skilling any furth into the sharpshooter skill.
Thankyou in advance to anyone who presents any useful information in this thread. |

Garrett Blacknova wrote:Bullet dispersion also varies based on whether you're hipfiring or aiming.
SMGs get a pretty big benefit to their accuracy from using the sights, so while there's a decrease in turning speed when you're doing it, learning when to use the sights makes Sharpshooter worth investing in.
Good point. My question is actually concerning ADS dispersion. |

Vrain Matari wrote:Just a bit of speculation, but it might help the discussion. My guess is that CCP would choose to work in steradians when reporting the dispersion of a weapon.
Just as long as they give the ratio of liner digression of bullet placement from center target to outer radius, so that I can calculate rounds per square inch at X distance.
Not sure steradians would apply, as it pertains to spheres, but yes that is basically what I am asking for, only minus one dimension, and no less than two examples at different distances. |

Buster Friently wrote:There are two "most likely" scenarios for how this is calculated :
1) dispersion is calculated in linear units (like meters or feet) perpendicular to the bullet's flight path.
2) dispersion is calculated as a deflection angle.
Number 2 is more mathematically accurate and, imho, the most likely way for CCP to do the calculation even though it's more computationally "heavy" than option 1. The ramifications of this would mean that sharpshooter would be decoupled from the weapon skills, meaning that adding range through sharpshooter would not also tighten dispersion.
If method one is used, there are two ways to apply this effect. The first way would be to apply the dispersion distance at max range. I think this is unlikely though because, if this was the case, sharpshooter would improve dispersion by virtue of the fact that the "fixed" dispersion distance would be resolved farther from the shooter with sharpshooter skill, thus tightening dispersion. The second way of applying method 1,would be to apply the dispersion distance at some fixed distance from the shooter regardless of max range. This is functionally equivalent to method 2, and would mean that sharpshooter does not affect dispersion.
These were my thoughts exactly. Which is why I am concerned about further skilling in to the sharpshooter skill. I think that the idea of coupling the two factors together could have easily been overlooked, with potential unintended negative consequences.
Now, if we could just get someone from CCP to make available here, the required statistics, we could get this thing calculated and put any doubt to rest. |
