Certain places, at certain angles and speeds it seems possible to collide with "air" in the sky as if it was a building.
I find this upsetting, especially since as with most drop-ship to wall collisions (due to explosive paint?) it obliterates the ship instantly.
And so I lost another million crashing into air. Thanks. |

Yup, lost millions to this. Only the truely crazy and loyal, stay pilots. Im not 100% pilot i like to dabble in it and drop stupid amounts of isk in flying but it is worth it |

Yeah I don't know why they dropped the flight ceiling so much, it was great when it was higher up. |

Then they bumped draw distance way up and cut missile range so far you can't even use them from a Dropship any more, and haven't bothered to fix the ceiling which is no longer needed that low.
Hopefully another thing coming to the next build along with the other vehicle rebalances? It's on the list... |

I so hope so. It's been left in a very odd state design wise with all the successive adjustments. like two groups of people were trying to fix the same problem.

Are you sure that's what happened and why? Or is that speculation |

This is part of the new build where the explosive paint can be detonated by dust and pollen in sufficient concentrations.
When it is fully implemented you will see something like this on the kill feed:
CCP (Pollen) Skihids
CCP (Dust) Nguruthos IX |

Can I coat the dust with some explosive paint from my ship and throw it in the air to decimate the entire battle field? |

I've never managed to lose a ship to the flight ceiling, but it's kinda depressing that such a stupid thing doesn't even surprise me anymore |

I was very depressed. Just sighed and enjoyed the flaming spiral to the ground. Having done such a good job of dodging AV that whole fight.
I tend to lose ships to stupid things only in the last 15 seconds of a match. Like just a bit longer and I wouldn't have to pay for another. I expect it now though. |

I don't have a problem with there being a height ceiling, but it needs to be higher and the dropships need to stall (i.e., decelerate) toward the top of it instead of just hitting a hard ceiling. I imagine that takes some programming, but so be it.
I would put the ceiling high enough that one could still hit a dropship with a forge gun if one were directly beneath it, but not at a 45 degree angle. Thoughts? |

Way back in the Precursor build it felt like the ship ran out of performance rather than hit a force field as it reached its effective flight ceiling, and it was ever so much more realistic. That's how I described it the Dropship Flight School thread. Afterburner power should increase the ceiling to the degree that it boosts flight performance.
The flight ceiling should definitely be high enough to avoid small arms fire. I suppose sniper fire could reach that high, but with the doors closed I would argue all passengers and gunners should be protected. The gunners are using a remote gun control (just look around when a passenger) just like HAV turret operators do so there is no reason they should be exposed. Flying at max altitude a ship should be out of range of most everything but missiles, installations, and a rail tank's main gun. At that altitude their small turrets are completely useless. |
