Right now as Dust stands, can be very fun. But whats not fun is getting trampled.
I just had a battle against people who had been playing for a long time, and had many, many more SPs than me. And lemme tell you, it isn't fun.
I suggest that when we go into matchmaking we are pitted against people of equal skill points, and not against people with the best of the best equipment. There's really nothing a guy with militia gear can do about a guy in black armor and a Duvolle assault rifle. I was playing on a team of mostly militia men, and when a single guy on the other team walks up to us, everyone shoots. Now, we did get get to his armor, but we were all dead by that time. That's one of the most annoying things about this game. Now, this is the 'ol matchmaking game. I'm sure by the time Dust is officially released we'll have faction warfare battles. In these cases we'd have players going up against whatever the other team can possibly cook up, which is where the risk comes in.
So TL;DR,
1. Match players against others of equal skillpoints and equipment.
2. When we have faction warfare battles, it doesn't matter what equipment each team has, they'll be going up against whatever. or whoever, the other team can bring in.
I feel that will make Dust a much more favorable experience. |

I recently started an alt for the sole purpose of not skilling anything up and playing with militia gear.
I came to the conclusion that the leveler is to GIT GOOD, unfortunately.
Fortunately, the devs don't like new players getting stomped and tell us they are constantly working on improving matchmaking.

I think the most important thing to consider for matchmaking is the number of pre-made squads, actually.
You can't really take gear into account as you don't know which loadout someone will use in a game (could base it on the highest level of course but not sure if that's the best way to go about it, especially when people play different roles with one character).
SP isn't really that good of an indicator either, as you can spend your SP all over the place or down one path. Basically, using SP as an important factor in matchmaking "punishes" those who like to play different roles over those who just play one.
I've found that almost all of the completely one-sided pub-matches I've been in had 1 or more full Corp squads on one side and none on the other. At the very least the matchmaking system should try to split these squads to different teams, so rather than having 2 on one team and none on the other, have 1 on each team... simple really :)
All that said, I've found it can be very educative to be thrown into a completely unbalanced match, it really makes you think about how to get at least some WP/Kills and have at least some effect on the other teams stampede when the odds are completely against you.
Sneaking all the way around the map in a free starter suit and being able to kill some well-geared merc that wasn't expecting you, or capping an objective when everyone is playing Duck Hunt at the red line are my way of getting some fun out of these matches. |

So I was on the receiving end of 4 very one-sided losses in a row last night. Like Kray Dytt, I did what I could: tried to flank with drop uplinks and wrest control of the occasional control point for a few minutes. And sneak around and ambush the occasional merc who strayed too far from their squad every once in a while.
I placed in the top 3 on the losing team every time. And the SP were good... I even got salvage one match.
But despite what I would consider being fairly rewarded for my efforts, it was not "fun" to be redlined for 4 games in a row. At least compared to those occasional well-balanced matchups with both sides staging incursions and control points changing hands often. Those heart-pumping matchups where victory rests on a knife's edge, and everyone is trying their utmost to tip the balance are where this game shines, and what keeps me playing. Not the SP, and not scrounging for kills from the reline.
Getting more tightly contested games and matchups continues to be one of the biggest challenges for this game and for the devs to address.
I've mentioned this before but my suggestion for addressing this are to follow in the footsteps of Starcraft and create leagues to help organize players of similar skill levels against each other. Close games and not one-way steamrolls are where the fun is for both sides. |

i agree Spillu, we need more tight matches that make us really want to risk the nice suits to win, i had about.. 3 days of nothing but being redlined, just loss after loss after loss, recently too.
i'm hoping that when the next build comes around that we'll have a nice, firm matchmaker, so we can actually find the games that will make us sweat jsut to win |
