Why even compare the two?
Defiance comes out on the 2nd of next month.
Dust doesn't even get to 0.8 before May. It is an even longer road to 1.0 from there.

Because who would like to pay to play another world of warcraft clone... oh those people who think defiance is a first person shooter game that has more in common with guns and bullets than wizards and dragons.
Defiance>
I cast spore cannon +2 onto target, debuff effects are poison damage + accuracy down.
I cast directional shield, immune from all damage from the front.
I cast fortitude 2500 + HP to party I mean squad.
Bad guys in defiance> Ah you cant shoot me I have retaliation, if shot I can hit back 100% more damage!!! Or I got a reflective shield that no matter what angle you hit the shield at It will bounce back and hit you. |

I'm not voting for defiance because I don't care about it.
I'm not voting for Dust because I am frankly very pessimistic about the release schedule. As it stands, the game is not worth voting for, beta or not. At the current pace, we might not even get to 1.0 this year.
If you compare the two on April 3rd, which will be the better game? That is what counts. |

I voted meh because 1. Dust isn't finished yet so you cant really give it a proper review and 2. I haven't played defiance yet.
Poll seems kind of pointless "what game is better one that hasn't been released yet and is still under NDA for beta testers or one that hasn't been released yet but is an open beta with the NDA lifted." Only thing they have in common is no one has played the finished product yet and therefore cant give a 100% accurate rating. |

Unless you look at the primary focus of both games, which is the long-term.
Both games are tie-ins for another product/service. With Defiance, it's the TV series, and that tie-in is being promoted as the big reason why people will keep playing the game. With DUST, it's EVE Online, but that's NOT being promoted as the big reason why people will keep playing the game. The continued development plan coming from a studio with a proven history of actually updating their other game with new content on a regular basis over the past 10 years is the main reason CCP expect players to keep coming back to DUST.
One game is relying on a gimmick to keep people coming back, the other is offering them new stuff on a regular basis to keep them coming back. Both of these techniques have been attempted before on many occasions, and one of them has worked reliably.
That's why I voted for DUST, anyway. |

I played the beta for Defiance, and it lacked some MMO features like actually getting parties together with your friends...plus it felt almost like a Borderlands clone. It sucked imo; I played for about two hours and got incredibly bored.
So DUST 514 definitely has my vote. |
