Like I said, I'm fine with swarm missiles flying faster than a DS under AB if I have another way to counter them.
The more powerful the weapon, the more important it is that there be a solid counter to it. So let's look at the SL.
It has a free variant (for some starter classes) It requires no player skill, just lock on, fire, and forget It requires no character skill (at lower levels) It is auto hit if your target is in view and in range Its range is a multiple of the only effective turrets a DS can mount It can be fired from cover
Combine that and you can easily deny the entire map. A ship has to deliberately fly into a barrage and tank several flights of missiles to get within range of the launcher. Now you need to kill it or be downed before you can get back out of range.
So how does the modern military deal with this threat? They employ detection and countermeasures. Chaff and flares to spoof radar and heat seeking guided missiles. A defensive module that requires a pilot to sacrifice a slot to defend against a single weapon system is entitled to be a complete counter for a certain duration of time (that being as long as the chaff or flares hold out). |

Did it fly faster than your missiles, or did it merely manage to get outside of their range before they caught up with it?
I ask because I was under full AB when I took a hit and the only location I knew for a luncher was almost directly behind me. That was near their redline when I was in range. After that hit I made it out of range before the next flight would have caught me. |

Dropships definitely need chaff, flares, and a lock on warning. Also, theres no reason why they can't go mach 2. Lots of people have been yelling to make the maps bigger and the flight ceiling higher. I don't know have fast dropships go in real life, but considering swarm missiles are "OP" i'm sure we could make an exception. |

considering CCP does this with everything, there might be different tiers of countermeasures, but I don't know how this would make sense and if it would be fair |

that use to be the case a few builds ago when everyone would fit a missile launcher on them and rain hell down wiping out hordes of people at once now to really get any kills with the drop ship you usually have to be in rather close or use the ship itself to squash people hell dropship pilots don't get any WP other than any kill assists from the 2 gunners they MAY have even if they have a MCRU on board.. yes that is right dropship pilots don't get spawn points when people spawn in them... hell i also wish they would make it easier for coordinating drop points with the people who are in the drop ship with the pilot... i already hear the well you should be in team comms well not everyone in the game either has a mic or know how to turn it on.. they didn't make it... also what if someone is hearing impared or can't talk well..... should be a way for the merc on board to quickly say i would like to be dropped off near this point whether it is an objective or a place of their choosing.. BTW a good fitted LAV is one a player has invested money into being able to use well usually not the ****** militia where the lvl 2 packed AV nade can take out with 1. |

another thing they should probably make different levels of some of the mods for dropships/tanks as currently there is only 1 yes 1 AB module for dropships and if memory serves me correct it only needs lvl 1.. what about advanced and proto AB.... also to the OP did you also try fitting an Overdrive along with the AB ...if you haven't that may give it enough strength to possibly out run |

Honestly, the problem isn't with the speed of the Swarm Missile, the problem is the fact that they are agile as kitten. Real-life missiles are really damn fast, but if you perform evasive maneuvers in something more agile and half as fast you can avoid them. Honestly I'm glad they are faster. You shouldn't just be able to outrun them, but they shouldn't track as fast either. |
