I dont know if in the final build we will be allowed to customize our vehicules controls scheme but something like this should be standard.
Its a pain to accelerate/brake/steer with one analog , this can be fixed to the better by changing the control scheme:
R2 for acceleration
L2 for brake
L3 to look back
Since square and X are not used for LAV/HAV the current functions of R1 and R2 should go to :
Square - Module Switch
X- Activate Remote Module

I think R2 should stay like it is, it would be too weird having a completely different control scheme for selecting modules. Maybe have left stick still be accelerate/brakes but have right be turn. But I guess the only way to solve this will be for the custom controls to come in. |

I have 6000 Kills in my Madruger, including over 200 Gunloggis/Madrugers and a dozen Suryas..
The controls are fine, and iif you change them ill haunt you forever =.=
Instead of changing SET controls that people have spent weeks getting used to, take the time to learn them. |

We need fully customizable controls and the addition of USB rudder pedal support. That would allow a tanker to separate turning from acceleration. You could use them to turn the tank or the turret, your choice. |

Why over-complicate things to such an extreme?
If myself and other tankers are able to drive the HAV in a great and often lethal fashion, I dont see why so much gimmicky gear is needed?
Whilst you play infantry you might want one of these...

oh and lets not forget you NEED a mouse and keyboard to shoot a gun in an FPS properly...
Apart from that, sure, fully customization controls would be awesome. |

The people who feel they drive great in a tank must have never played any ps3 racing games. Because if they did, they would know that the current control scheme for driving vehicles in this game is not very popular at all. The superior format has the gas either mapped to the [R2] button trigger or the (X) button. The buttons are pressure sensitive which makes acceleration control very easy. Currently there is only a start and stop function for vehicles, that can easily be changed. |

Oddly enough I both agree and disagree with this idea.
The LAV controls are incorrect based on vehicle usage and what the driver is allowed to do. There are no weapons, the physics are wrong* and thus the controls react to the increased (but wrong) input from the physics engine. Simply having a proper throttle and brake would help immensely.
Once I started driving HAVs the controls work well for them. Switch to third person view and rotate the tank while keeping the turret pointed at a target. Works very well for it needs to do. Of course, the Squad Leader commands are nearly useless and with the limit on checking on or using OBs from within a vehicle means jumping out which is just not something that can be done very easily.
* try this test in the real world. Drive into a parking lot or driveway that has a small lip. The suspension adjusts to the input in a controlled manner. When you get the chance try the same experiment in game. The Smallest lip will cause the LAV to leap into the air about 1.5 meters. Nothing wrong except everything. Either the physics, the suspension, the code or all of the above.
The lip I tested is in Manus Peak B. When the Supply Depot in on the ground within the four buildings surrounding the Null Cannon the texture by it indicates something like concrete pads. There is a transition there and any attempt I made to drive over it caused the LAV to get air. |

If you read the control scheme header in the game's menu you'll notice it doesn't say "LAV controls", but rather "wheeled vehicle controls". There will be other wheeled vehicles, some of which may have driver operated turrets. They're trying to make as few separate control schemes as possible, which makes sense, but means that LAV drivers have to operate their vehicle as through there was a driver operated turret. |

I only own a PS3 for DUST 514, so no I dont play "other" "racing" (different genre, wtf?) games...
That being said HAVs drive and work great with the control scheme in place..
Now I wont lie and be truthful in saying that I can't drive a LAV to save my life...probably due to the control scheme and the fact that imo the LAV physics are just complete shite in comparison to something like a warthog.
But all in all, HAVs are just fine ;-)...
EDIT: Pressure sensitive acceleration on a Madruger? That thing is already a FAT WHALE, and I keep the accelerator floored 99% of the time to make it move....how "sensitive" do you want it to be?! |

imagine driving a real car with only the wheel for steer brake and acceleration
push wheel up to accelerate
hold wheel down to brake and the rest is for steer left right
thats how its in Dust514 now

This could be easily fixed with the addition of being able to make a local game where you can use any vehicle you have fittings for to practice driving and piloting. |

You realize most real cars being front wheel drive steer, accelerate and brake on the front tires right?
1- That being said I think the consensus is LAV controls suck atm 2- HAVs are just fine 3- we need to customize controls, which is confirmed and coming soon
However just cuz some players like their GT and can't memorize 2 control layouts doesn't mean cap needs to go n change em, Some of us dedicated ourselves to such roles on dust and it shows on the killboards at the end of the match ;-)
I'd just like to point of that making macros for all modules on a keyboard will probably never happen 1- needing to activate modules and being unable to shoot whist doing so is part of balancing atm 2- would be hugely unfair vs controller players
And last but not least, stressing the point: LAVs suck =.= |

I dont dislike the LAV controls, although I think they could be better. They let me do what I need (e.g. switch active module similar to switching gear in Infantry mode, utilize remote-rep/shield-transporter) and still let me control things fairly well. Have done stunts, quick escapes, rapid 180-turns etc.
Do the controls take some getting used to? yes Could they be improved? yes Am I constantly zig-zagging? no, not really
Also, if you remap X or R2, you need to direct their functions somewhere else - otherwise some features are going to get VERY difficult to use. |

This is an FPS, not some ****** racing game. The controls are tailored as such. Now, as they use different drive systems, I think that the tank and buggy should handle differently. Current handling is a little clumsy for the tank, but otherwise the controls are fine. Stop trying to do this like it's a racing game, it's really not. If you can't get use to the controls, then quit driving. |
