I tried Dust 514 for the first time, everything was alright. However, graphic and texture was by far below standard for AAA game. For example, Blacklight: Retribution, and Planetside 2 has good graphics and they are free to play as well, and among them, Dust 514 does not really stand out at all. I am aware that graphic is not everything about the game, but it is true that first impression is mostly affected by the graphics of the game. I also know that this game is still in Beta, but I doubt that graphics will change as I have seen no significant graphic changes from closed-beta footage and open-beta footage. This is completely my opinion, and if I am wrong, feel free to fix my mistakes. |

Ok, well where I do agree with you. Dust will be getting a graphics update and some other graphical issues hopefully fixed. The lack of RAM on the PS3 also is hard to deal with so, we won't see graphics from a PC game on this console, maybe the PS4 once DUST ports over, but not on the PS3.
My only graphical gripe is what seems to look like 64x64 or 256x256 graphics on some objects in the game world and sometimes the game world's higher res textures not loading fully.
But I suggest you don't expect today's pc graphics on the PS3, it couldn't handle it and probably melt. |

Gameplay is not just about graphics. Dust is a unique blend of FPS and MMO. You will find atrade off here. However the content of dust is rich. After 20 years of gaming I have finally found a game that not only offers vast content but also integration between space warfare and ground warfare.
If you care only about the graphics Dust is probably not the game for you. However if you like everything about gaming which is fun, challenge, content, growth, storyline etc etc etc Dust is the game for you. Dust will be ever evolving. |

the graphics did get better on the last build before the move from closed to open beta.
there were no graphical improvements on the move from closed to open beta, it was about bringing Dust514 onto the same servers as EVE
the next build should have more building interiors and foliage
* this is not like most betas you've probably seen. it's not just a "final product" doing load testing. there are real changes to the game code and game play that are being developed with our help. we've recently heard from CCP FoxFour and his team on the Planetary Conquest changes that are to come and there are other teams working on other aspects of the game that have yet to chime in on what they are bringing to the next build :) |

This game looks fine and if people are turned off by the way it looks, oh the f*** well. They're not the types that are suited for this kind of game to begin with. Hopefully the next people to be reclaimed by the Amarrians will be you graphic obsessed schmucks. |

Lighting effects are getting better (though some of the clipping is still there)
Many textures need working on, most notable the tops of many buildings.
Terrain could use a pass-over as well.

I don't think it is being "graphic obsessed" to want a console FPS game to (on final release) look as good (and have as good frame rates) as other FPS for the same console. |

This ^
CCP is doing something that I haven seen any other companies do, and that is involving the players, the fans, in the development of the core game. This is good for both them and us.
They get an emence amount of help from the commumity's feedback and the beta veterans who will know the ins and outs of the game by launch that will help new players from getting lost and eventually dropping the game from frustration.
In return, we get to play the game earlier than it was intended (based on how many other companies decide to hold back content until it's about 95% complete). Plus it's a really good feeling to you know you were part of the reason why many people will lve and be hardcore fans of this game. |

THIS GAME IS NOT DONE!!!! THIS GAME IS NOT!!!!! DONE!!!!! THIS!!!!! GAME!!!!!!!! IS !!!!!!! NOT !!!!!!!!! DONE!!!!!!!!!
Get it yet? This game is not done. This is a beta test!
Now when I say this is a beta test I mean BETA. Not like the other companies that have fully developed the game internally and then they release their finished game as a "beta" so they can test out their servers and determine any last minute issues. This game however is not DONE nor anywhere near it!
If you cry and qq and demand CCP to give you better graphics and they do make it AAA graphics in the beta ... by the time the game is actually done those graphics are now "out of date" and we have to go through this whole thing again with all new people whining how this game doesn't have AAA graphics and CCP wasted all the time in the beta to make things look better to only have to do it again!
I would rather CCP spends their time developing the GAME! Do cool things that are fun to PLAY not fun to look at.
If I wanted something pretty to look at I'd buy some art. Till then I want my game to be fun! |

You also know that halfway through development they moved from the CARBON in house engine to the UNREAL engine. That put development of graphics and content back by about 2 years. |

We've got sometime before final release and at least one build in between that many have said will have graphical improvements. Frame rate is a different issue and I have no qualms with people complaining about that; however they can improve frame rate without improving graphics and improving graphics will not improve frame rate.
You may not think so but I firmly believe that demanding CCP to waste time and money improving the graphics when the game already looks good to be graphics obsessed. Sure other FPS's look better but eye candy is pretty much all most of them are; they lack gameplay which relegates them to flavors of the month and even of the week. |

Many other have similar threads about graphics or stuff like this. You and everybody else has to understand that CCP really doesnt care about graphics AT THE MOMENT. (ITS BETA), or actually its Open Beta. But apparently that term has been used to much to where I cant use it anymore with much people caring.
Anyways what im trying to say is that if CCP actually cared about graphics and bugs we would've been had that update. We would've been had bug fixes, especially the major ones that make us have to restart the game ever other 4-5-6 matches we play. The bugs and Graphics are not on there list apparently at the moment. They are focusing on the major thing here- I try to tell this every time somebody posts a similar thread like this one. That if the more content they add on the PS3 if it can actually play the game we like.
So if they just improve upon the graphics(they already look decent) it might cause more lag. Its already on one huge ass server- which is connected to the EVE online server- Tranquility. If they improve bugs(which would be good but take a lot of time away from the main part) thats my guess on bugs.
They are focusing on the main game- basically if it can actually play on the ps3. - ofcourse the ps3 is outdated and cant do as much as a pc. But CCP is obviously pushing the ps3 to its limits and then some. |

I personally like the graphics and effects on dust. You have to make allowances for 7 year old PS3 hardware. No doubt the PS4 version will get graphical improvements. |

I said this once, and I'll say it again, this is a beta. Graphics are the least of anyones worries in a beta. the point of a beta is to get the core aspects pinned. do you think that COD had good graphics when it was in Alphaa/Beta? Probaly not. Get where Im going? we need Bugs to be fixed, weapons to be balenced, and other fun features added (Like PODs (Player-Owned-Districts)) way before graphics need to be updated |

Keep in mind that CCP is marketing Dust as a AAA game. This does mean we should expect excellence in the graphics department. But any veteran of EVE online will tell you that CCP can get carried away with hyping up their product.
I have no problem with players demanding that CCP lives up to their own marketting hype, it's the only way to keep them honest.

This guy gets it. To all of those who get offendend at the demand of better graphics you're missing the point in this specific case. First off graphics are about of medium importance to me. I believe they work in tandem with many many other game aspects. A great game should have atmosphere and a general feel to it from it's mechanics and features all the way down to the text.
The point of threads like this is the importance of how the final product will look on what will be the mainstream system of it's time. The PS4.
Point in short, despite how good a game's features are people don't want to have their PS4 game look like it came from the PS2. It is a valid expectation that the technology you pay for is put to use. |
