So today I was going about my daily routine, more of the same really. Hopping onto Facebook I noticed a post about the War Council, so obviously I clicked it. Now, I've vaguely known of the CSM and what they do in EVE, but I've never really given it much thought as I've only ever casually played EVE (too much lone wolfing and industry for me).
After reading the announcement about the War Council, it suddenly hit me: this isn't just another random game where all you are is this meaningless number, farming away pointless kill after pointless kill. This is DUST, which is EVE, and what you say and do here actually sticks with you. What hit me hardest about that is looking back at my recent behavior on the forums. These past couple months have been hard on me and I've been letting it show here, growing impatient with the state of the game and trolling other peoples posts (I still do my best not to troll constructive topics).
That ends today. I've been in this Beta since March 25th, 2012, and to be perfectly honest, it's one of the best things to have happened to me (aside from my daughter  ) Now I know that might sound lame to some of you, but ever since I first heard about DUST, I knew the game had incredible potential. Having only seen more recent bits and pieces of EVE firsthand, I can only judge from what I see, but what I see is CCP releasing update after update, expansion after expansion, free of charge. I see a company that gives the power to its players, instead of taking it away.
Most of all though, I see potential. Having played this Beta as long as I have, I know that while progress might appear slow, it's steady and methodical. For those who have trouble not knowing why or how CCP is doing the things they're doing, I offer you a word from Sun Tzu.
"All men can see these tactics whereby I conquer, but what none can see is the strategy out of which victory is evolved."
SImply put, just because you can't see all the pieces working together, doesn't mean that all the pieces aren't working together. Have patience, and help out the newberries. I know that I'm not as suitable or deserving of a spot on the War Council as many, but this has been a huge eye opener and I want to do what I can to help our community succeed. Without us, this game is nothing, if we scare everyone off we'll be fighting over deserted planets in no time 
Look for tutorial and help videos from me soon, all my recording stuff should be here and set up within the next two weeks. |

I'm glad to see that you see how awesome a company CCP really is. They actually care about players, which is why so many people go back to EVE after quitting. I can't really think of any other games company that sets up an organisation which, albeit having no power over players, can change the game.
The War Council has a lot of troubles to go through, though, if the politics surrounding the CSM are anything to go by. |

Sounds like your had your own personal New Eden epiphany. I had the same thing when I was in the Eve beta. One day you just realise... Holy Kitten this thing is bigger than anything else.

Lol nope.
Jokes aside, Eve is now a (relatively) polished product, and yes the "extended beta" way that CCP does things is a bit different, but IMHO it works, and DUST will eventually be just as polished and nuanced as Eve is.

One thing to make perfectly clear here is that the Council of Stellar Management had to endure years of being criticized by the player base as nothing more than a PR stunt by CCP. Council members had to earn the respect community over those years though hard work and showing positive results for it that benefits the community and CCP. It was not until just last year that the CSM finally earned that respect.
That said, we have a long way to go to prove to New Eden that us mercs are worthy of having a voice as well. |
