The range Heavies can get with an HMG is a bit much. I understand its a skill, but when there's a "sniper cone" of fire from a HMG in dust, it seems a bit too much. It gives them advantage at close and long range. If I run into a heavy around a corner, that's my fault and has the advantage, which the heavy should. It's made for being a walking tank of sorts, but if its shooting just as far as an assault rifle, then it gets to be a bit too much.
Secondly lasers need some kind of small nerf. They can have ridiculous range, insane damage, zero recoil, and overheat comes slow. I'm not sure exactly what kind of nerf would be fair, but maybe have them overheat a bit faster.
However, I won't lose any sleep over them not getting a nerf, I'll adapt just like everyone else. |

Firstly when you say it has the range of an AR I think youll find tgat that said heavy has put good sp there also tgo only AR I can match with my HMG as far as range goes are on folks who havent skilled up the light sharp shooter . The answer to your problem is if a heavie is getting range on your AR then its time for you to skill up the sharpshooter simples. |

If a Heavy Machine Gun has more range than your Assault Rifle, you're doing it wrong. Either way, Assault Rifles have less falloff and less inaccuracy, and the wielder can be faster, so even if you did have slightly less range you should still be at an advantage. |

yet another cry to hurt the niche role...
is anyone else seeing a pattern here?
this crap won't stop until:

Currently working towards Heavy Weapon Sharpshooter 4 (need 261k sp, thank you for being a 3x skill while Light weapons are a 2x). Someone in my corp with zero levels of Light Weapon sharpshooter was out ranging me with the Gek-38 to the second level HMG meant for range and my HWS 3.
If HMGs were to end up a 20 meter ranged weapons they had better completely rip up anybody like a shotgun to the head.
I can empathize with the range concern. There are some maniacs out there who actually trained Heavy Weapon Sharpshooter to 5 and don't care spending 38k ISK or tens of thousands more on their weapon. They are ridiculous for good reason. |

OP, how do you know the skills and damage modifiers applied? Heat buildup is skill driven. Range is skill driven. What do you want to nerf? I play Scout and I kill weak HMG heavies with SMG face to face. That's how weak HMG is until skilled into properly -- I beat half of them by range, get into ADS and aim for the head, so my strafing is severely limited. This is how OP HMGs are.
I've also got Weaponry=5 and my ELM-7 sounds like fun, but without damage mods is only good on MLT and weaker STD (unless you stand still, but then I will just falcon punch you to death). With complex damage mod it gets better, but I can get twice those kills with GEK and same damage mod. So funny thing -- it feels easier and more cost effective to run basic laser +10% damage, than advanced model.
I respect people who went all in for sharpshooter for their weapon class & then went for higher tier weapons to shred you. Also I think Minigun gets no respect in this game, it could have been a behemoth to be reckoned with, not paper bullet spammer. No wonder heavies run with ARs.
Still want to nerf something? Please stop, duck, roll and GTFO. |

Another piece of information the OP seems to lack, beyond almost everything else about Heavies and HMGs, most HMGs need about 1/2 second to spin up. Before that they are not accurate as the rounds spew out.
The stream the OP was yammering about is what happens when the Skills get the cone down to a reasonable size And the HMG has spun up. The Assault HMG produces smaller punch (12 vs 20) but it does have an increase in range. I believe it might stabilize faster as well. The documentation is sadly lacking sufficient detail. Surprise.
For those of you that have yet to use an HMG the Reticule doesn't show a cross hair. Just a round circle that shows the cone the rounds will hit. Once the weapon has spun up two red Vs show up and it is a simple matter to put that directly on the Target's Head which will make them drop very quickly. Then they will come to the Forums and QQ about Heavies and/or HMGs.

Leave the heavies alone, they don't need a nerf or a buff, they are fine just he way they are.

This is what a minigun can do, lets call it the great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandfather of the HMG, note that in the description it says notorious for jamming, but keep in mind Dust takes place 21338 years in the FUTURE, me thinks they found a way around this.... The fact that the ranges are so short on all the weapons astounds me. Once the game releases, they should actually increase the ranges of all the weapons, to show the technological advances of the races. The damages are fine the way they are because they are hitting advanced armor and well, if they were going up a 20th century M1A1 they would most likely riddle it with holes and take main cannon round to the face without even blinking.
Edit: Forgot to put my point about the future in there :-) |

first off lasers i understand.. i run 1150-1325 HP as a heavy and a entry level laser destroys me in just over 1 second.. dmg doesnt need a nerf the mechanics jus need an overhaul...secondly ASSAULT HMG's are ranged weapons.. i have sharp shooter prof 1 n with the assault HMG i still get out ranged by GEKs by a alot and assult does highly reduced dmg @ close range... you see we sacrifice our specialty to get range so a nerf to our ranged weapon will render it useless... if any thng hmgs should be buffed along with heavy suit... proto assault & proto logis are alot harder to kill than a proto heavy by far and with dbl the cpu and 1/2 the price you all got it made.. please stop the nerf qq'n b/c if 1 weapons nerfed another will become OP... its the never ending **** cycle & all it does is leave unbalance everywhere... |

I've been playing with lasers a bit yesterday. I got LR operation 1 with a standard Laser Rifle and have a number of Light weapon skills, but I think even killing a militia assault player took me over a second... Admittedly I'm not really good with it yet, but it didn't feel overpowered compared to my usual Assault Rifle, tbh.
