I'm new to New Eden, and to Zion, but darn this has been pretty funny to read.
You guys seem far too happy for a group of people who have to devote so many human resources to espionage in a game. Not that I don't like the added depth, but damn, I am already a no-lifer game player, and you guys make me look like a 1 hour a week casual.

Sounds like it would make a fascinating study. Just like any other study of psychopaths would surely be a great read.

First, I do not agree that is it is a good(read: healthy) outlet for aggression. if you have aggression to get out, go take up boxing, or judo, or go become a lumberjack. All of which are much better ways of handling your anger management issues than playing out your psychopathic fantasies in a space game.
Further, I do not agree that it is a shallow comparison. I think that if you were to look at that thread CWJ posted, you could make a viable case, on that thread alone, for him at least getting a few 3 scores on his factor 1 ranking on the Hare psychology checklist. Also, please explain these ramifications that I have not thought through.
More broadly, the persona one chooses to adopt in a virtual world does speak volumes about the underlying psychology of the person who chooses those roles. The guy who spends 60 hours running over nothing but prostitutes in GTA just might be a misogynist. He wants to do some horrible things to women, but wouldn't in the real world because of those real world consequences.
This same lack of consequences is exactly why Eve survives. It gives an outlet for all the cowards who wish they could be strong, wish they could have power, wish they could be someone. All things that are beyond them in the real world because of their various failings.
As for the goons, I couldn't care. You guys need to feel hated? Is that your whole bit? Well, then, here is a big ole hug. Hope you have a good day. |
