I just saw a cool post in the war room. I wont link it again. But the title of my last post perhaps was a bit vague and inflammatory. My aim was to get a discussion going on the whole "metagame" thing. I think this stuff is good for the game because it gives us another dimension into the game that goes beyond gameplay and keeps the current content fresh.
I for one am bored of playing Dust but playing WARGAMES never gets old and i think i found a fun distraction b/w the builds.
My eyes are open now and i guess i better start checking my backyard. (welp). |

I think it's more a security issue, not having any security on your team speak in the first place allowed this to build up to it's current level but even then, he knew i was in his his corp for quite some time and did nothing about it because they don't have the skill set to find a route out spys yet.
They know they are there, but are unable to do a damn thing about it.

Its alright I guess but not really my thing, I can see it being amusing for some but if I was Zion I wouldn't even sweat it. I guess the more you are seriously invested into the game the more venerable you can make yourself for a attack but I honestly wouldn't take any in game stuff too serious. Plans usually change down the line and nobody even knows what dust will be like in the future. I hear infiltration is huge on eve but eve is already a well established game that's been around forever. This infiltration stuff will all be forgotten if dust fails and doesn't make it passed its beta stages. Some find entertainment in fantasy, role playing and being moles for Intel. I get my fix from straight up playing the game and competing. Sitting and spying on dudes and getting hours of recordings from them sounds a little creepy to me. |

Dust isn't going to be fully influenced by how eve works. I know corps who will straight up tell you there plans and they will never be a damn thing you can do about it. |

You should see it in EvE. Its like some of the people there just live and breath just for EvE. There real life bodies are the game and their EvE personas are the real them. Some video games seem to transcend just being a game in the end. I lost a friend to playing EvE who became obsessed with it to such an extent. Kind of sad and really really creepy. |

Not really, with a good long term plan you could just abandon half of an infiltrated corp's districts and take them uncontested |

Hornet its about the long term dividends.
Think more cold war. Or kgb vs cia.
I highly suggest people start watching FX networks: The Americans. Then you will understand the potential.
Better yet think the movie SALT... Long term sleeper agents perfectly attuned the the corp doctrine they infiltrate. Is it difficult to manage yes but when isn't espionage difficult.
Man im loving all the possibilities my mind is blown and my eyes wide open.

They'll likely be hired out as cannon fodder to other, bigger corporations that need to soften up enemy districts, especially if corps provide their own clones for the battles. We also don't know how / if trading and industry will come into play, so we'll just have to wait and see.
Also, on the topic of spies

I heard nobody made it into that corp match on time and you guys got in early and had the objectives taken before we could get 5 in against your 8 and our new recruit impswarm guys did better then everyone in your corp lol. I peaked in and seen everyone in your corp went negative and almost lost even though you had a full 8 and sat in there after the match started waiting for gunner to field some swarm to train them lol.

Quite sad, and IMO to some extent, pathetic. Pretty much sabotaging the main value of a videogame:Fun. Just to gain an edge against a group of people who you might not ever gonna even affect your life outside of the game, When you lose yourself to a game and paying the toll to it, wherether being hours of sleep to money, friends, even jobs or studies.... and what for? All hail king nothing!!! |

But that is New Eden for you. It is a fun game to play but I've seen computer set-ups just to run 4+ clients at once for all their characters. When a game becomes your life it is time to take a step back. And while I like immersion and thought in a game these kind of events are taken to the extreme. |

I understand real life money and years of time is invested in eve so I can see some infiltrations being devastating to some. I have another question though and it ties to my original question. How can a infiltration devastate a well established corp who always holds there own? Like on eve I am sure many tried to and have infiltrated goon swarm and they may have cost them time and money but has that ever really stopped them from being rich and playing the game how they wanted to play it? I understand they are good at setting moles up as well. Dust and Eve are still two very different games though. Time will tell on if dust will even last while I hope it does we know one thing is for sure and that's eve is here to stay. |

Metagaming is what makes EVE so special compared to other MMOs and what will make Dust stand out amongst other FPS games. The more players have to lose the more passionate they will be.
Metagaming seems to bring out the best and the worst in people and that makes for great stories. Even if you don't play EVE Online you can read stories about what happens there and be entertained.
But yeah, if you take it too seriously and become obsessed, you will likely be crushed. And if you take it way too seriously, you have already lost. |

Which harkon back to what I said, when you start sacrificing several things in order to have an edge on something that isnt tangible, as a videogame universe. You need to step back and reevaluate your priorities, online gaming should help you to get along with people and gain friends along the fun ride. Not the other way around, as this people try to glorify as the "New Eden way" being the most powerful doesnt mean **** if you dont have anyone to share the power with. |
