Apologies if this information can be easily found here, I did look found a few related subjects but nothing concrete.
So my question is this. Do AR's, SMG's and HMG's have decreasing projectile damage throughout their Range? Obviously at maximum range the seem to essentially disappear. I assume Sharpshooter skill increases the distance HMG'S projectiles travel before disappearing? Therefore if my Max range was 60 with an HMG (not sure what it is conflicting info here) no sharpshooter, then at lvl3 sharpshooter my Max range is 69, would I be correct in assuming my projectiles will now do more DMG at 60?
I found a thread here giving optimal range and Max range for all weapons but it may be invalid as I believe it's from a previous build. However the numbers may have changed I'm sure the mechanics are still the same.
So when it said Gek38 optimal range 1-37 max 65. Does that mean that bullet DMG is Max at 32.5 out to 37, and begins to drop from there until hitting 0 at 65.
just trying to get a feel for what sharpshooter actully does. |

So the optimal max range is the range where you get 100% weapon damage. Beyond that, you do get a decrease in damage. The max range is where the round no longer hits (aka 0% damage).
All of the values on the range thread should be accurate and up to date.
edit: in response to your question, you might be doing more damage at the closer range with sharpshooter, but it depends on the weapon. You'll need to test it yourself. |

Cool, thanks for the response man.
Next time I have the chance I'll try to test if sharpshooter slightly increases DMG from 37m to 63 with a GEK.
I'm picturing it as a line graph, X vertical being DMG, Y horizontal being range. Just by increasing range you are losing less damage per meter, thereby increasing DMG between the Drop off start and it's previous maximum range. Albeit not a significant increase until sharpshooter proficiency. |

You're welcome

Yes, that is how it works. Most weapons have a certain range where the damage decrease stops. For instance, a rifle that has a maximum range of 100 meters might decrease in damage for every meter until it deals 15% damage at 80 meters. From 80 meters to 100 meters, it does 15% damage. It varies between weapons, so I can't give you an exact value.
The sharpshooter skill will increase the damage you do, but a 5% increase in range will not give you any extra damage over sharpshooter 0 if you're trying to shoot something that's 99 meters away in this example. |

Oi I always try and keep my range thread up to date :P Just cause I started it several builds back doesn't mean I don't update it. It just doesn't show the latest date when editing it. |
