Hey guys,
In one of the maps with a fairly large central town, I was flying on my dropship and decided to gingerly bump the wires that are strung from building to building to see if I'd collide with them, and I was absolutely surprised to see that I can fly straight through them. This gave me an amazing idea for AV against aerial vehicles. A cable gun.
While not intended to actively destroy vehicles, it would be a fancy tool for area denial. Especially in tight spaces like objectives B and C on Skim Junction. You would fire it at a wall, and the cable would spool out and affix itself to the wall. Then, your character would unload the other end of the cable from the gun and plant it in the ground at your feet, or you could fire again at a second wall. These cables would cause collision damage for aerial vehicles attempting to fly through them. Also, the size would be such that at a cautious speed it would be easily avoidable. However, a panicked dropship pilot at a higher speed may miss it and hang themself up on it.
Note: This cable gun would NOT double as a grapnel, and it probably shouldn't be able to do any sort of direct damage to infantry or vehicles when initially fired.
It's a slightly half-baked idea that needs some reworking, but I could see it adding a new dynamic to being a pilot. |

There are very few situations this would be useful in and with collision damage as kittened up as it is this wouldn't end well |

Bojo The Mighty wrote:As If Dropships didn't have it bad enough Well, I know they won't add weapons until the next build. I also trust CCP to fix the dropship a bit in the next build. Also, I'm a dropship pilot. I think this would add a fun dynamic to flying. Plus, it's not anybody actively trying to shoot me down. |

It actually wouldn't need any collision damage at all, it would just need to stop vehicle movement and maybe have some spring-back. Just pushing a dropship around is pretty devastating to it, and it would be incredibly useful for blocking off areas or thoroughfares against tanks. I'm not even sure it would require a proper counter, since it's not an offensive weapon, just a logistical one. But you could make it so infantry can break the cable (using the "hacking" mechanism, as they take time to cut through it).
Not a bad idea. Not particularly high-tech, except of course that the cable would be made of some advanced material capable of repelling a moving tank. Maybe a Minmatar device. It would be interesting to see a set of logistical weapons for heavies, e.g., a Caldari magnet gun, an Amarr repulsion laser. |

If it doesnt function like Just Cause. There is no point of having this. Plus, you would only be able to use it on "one" map if nothing changes level design wise.

I have an idea. Since there's an idea of a handheld stasis webifier (as equipment or a sidearm), how about making the stasis webifier in two variants: One fires a net but is hell to aim and takes some time to charge up, and a stasis "cable" gun, which creates a tripwire of stasis web between two emitters, is good for multiple things tripping through them (let's say 3, it seems fair). They both slow anything that touches them by 50%. If these are ever implemented, though, they have to de-nerf dropships first. |
