I by no means means want to or am I trying to condemn this great game. I am a liitle north of the target audience (56) for Dust but I feel there's more than a few that feel the way I do. (Maybe 2or3) Injuries I recieved from a racing accident many years back have caught up with me and I'm now disabled and home 24/7. I've been an avid Eve player for the last 2 1/2 yrs. and over the years I've watched all the news about Dust 514. January of this year came and Dust put the open sign in the window, but it feels to me like there's a group that have been playing in the back room for quite a while now. I know I'm old by the gaming standard but I have had the help of my 2 grandsons and I put in about 8 hrs of playing a day. 1 Month and 20 days later I have earned close to 10 ml Isk and 3.5 ml skill points, thats a decent jumpstart, I've spread the sp's around so as not to be heavy on one end. I've played against the best and been thrown in the fire it seems over and over.I have some nice gear to use but man do I feel naked in some of these battles! Believe me I think you can learn alot by playing with the best of the best but I also think that you should bring the young ones along slowly so as not to discourage them and believe me I have felt like I was banging my head against the wall many times. I do think as the game progresses there should be a system for new warriors to learn instead of like me standing in front of the A Complex and can't figure out how to jump up on the step and then finally getting to the screen and not knowing how to start the hack. It may be my imagination but the last 2 weeks feel like the compitition has really ramped up. There's been some great team play that I've seen and most of it was almost impossible to compete with, these guys are good, but one tactic really bothers me in fact its cowardly. In the last week 75% of the time when I've respawned to the surface there would be a group from the opposing team shooting as you came out of the bubble or jumping from the ship. I've been in a dozen games the last week that were won this way. The opposing team would get control of the 3 or 4 complex's right at the start and as soon as they did a group would target the spawn points and ship there by cutting new troop's off. Some might think this is a good idea but in effect their shooting defense-less soldiers. I mean I tryed everything, running or shooting as soon as you hit the ground even with 4-5 hitting the ground togeather we were mowed down everytime. Thats why I call this the work of cowards trying to win a game other than the way it was imagined to be played. If you can't let a team land and fight the battle on the field then your just a bunch of cowardly point grabbers. This has happened so much in the last week I get the urge to quit but then I come back to see if any real players are on and 3 out of 5 games I get discouraged again. Maybe one of these days I can make it to the top 10 of the list at the end of the game, it's really not fun being a bottom marker every game. But then those of us on the bottom should feel important because if we wer'nt there the top 10 would'nt get many points. |

these are placeholder matches, and yeah there's going to be a redlining, the maps have been played so many times that everyone knows the streamline to the redline. hopefully we get new modes of play soon.
you can't expect random FPS players to play fair or honorably, it's just not their nature. in many of our minds: red = kill on sight, almost by reflex, we don't stop to think if it was cheap or not, if we do, in that split second of hesitation we die.
you need to recognize when a battles hopeless. no ones obligating you to win that pub match for them, you don't owe any strangers anything, and sometimes it's best to leave a hopeless battle, and find an easier one. |

Never give up never surrender I cant count how many times my squad has helped pull a team from the red line by simply just eqqiping drop uplinks and malitia shot guns to the dragonfly suits all it takes is a littke knowledge of the map and some balls to try |

It's better to specialise. You need to be 'heavy' on one end, perhaps two or three even, but the jack-of-all-trades mercenary is not an option currently. It just can't work.
Also, take up the offer to join a corporation. It helps. Greatly. |

Nggh i read it but, pls format it next time...
To get to that top 10 you will need to up your awerness, tactical insight and ditch your self entitled thing you call honor, because the opponent will not play by "your" self imposed rules.
Just so you know a man at the age of 65 can with proper training reach 165ms response time, you should test yours and get to work, anything averaged above 0.250ms = bad and will mean that you are dead against someone with 150-160ms and good aim (any 16-19 year old pretty much, though many lack good aim, or tactical insight), i am 35 and my average has declined to 180 to 200 on a bad day and i am top 3 in every match even if we get rolled by 2 teams...
about rules....
I play by my own rules and i lose sometimes because i can't get that low yet, but CRU camping = a valid tactic, noone forces you to spawn there and when i take one, i have to deal with troops that spawn, if i give you a hand and wait before you are done spawning, youll take my arm and the next guy right behind you will take my leg and i will be respawning instead.
Its better thet the opponents respawn.
The only thing i really hate is people with proto suits when taking 1 bullet, heading straight for cover, popping back out, taking another bullet and hiding again, hoping you forget about them...so they can kill you the moment you turn yer back.

Well there's your problem.
So in FPS games, you have to shoot people, and preferably shoot them in the face. It's not gear or SP or CCP's fault you're bad, you just are bad. Once you can get over that hump and practice, you should get better.
I wouldn't spend any of your SP or run anything but starter fits if I were you. You have to start somewhere. |

I can vouch for that.... Had the same thing, always played FPS games and CS on high lvl (wolfenstein, doom, doom2, halflife, Counterstrike, Tactical Ops) before MMO's came out and in 1997 until 2009 i did not touch FPS games anymore
When i tried to get back into shooters, namely APB (now APB reloaded) it took me months to get back any sort of motor skills back to my previous lvl and now 3-4 years later, i just aint what i used to be. Had to start at 20 cm mouse movement to turn around, all the way to 1 cm again..
Friend that i always play together with used to back then group with 4 to 5 friends vs me solo and even then they had to ***** & moan and put more handicaps on me (don't use that gun, don't use that pistol, don't use the sniper rifle) bla bla...
Now he can take me on solo give me a run for my money...
Practice, practice & practice and youll get there...and ditch slow moving games :p (i still play Eve though)

It is an annoying tactics, but what can we say it happens i do it sometimes, and its been done to me and theres no real way to stop it, the only advice i can give is, if you suspect theres enemies around a spawn point and you will be spawning in alone, just dont. Choose a differant spawn point, might mean you have to run a bit further, but it can be better than insta death.
Also if you zoom in on the map on spawn screen if you're tv is good enough you might see the little pixels of enemy soldiers running around the spawn waiting for you.
As mentioned aswell try and find a corp theres plenty of decent ones out there that will be happy to help you learn all the details, if you are an eve player i should think you have a fairly good understanding of alot of stuff anyway, and you'd be surprised theres plenty of older gamers around eve and dust and they give the young ones a good run for their money. Just check out the corp recruitment section and find a corp that fits what you're looking for and around your tz.
And yeah as many trolls as there are, there's plenty of helpful people out there aswell, ive had a couple of mails about fittings from new players ive helped em out with, Just keep practicing stick with it, if you spot a good player follow them around a bit watch what they do, and help them out a bit even. Try and run in a squad if you can, or at least follow those 2 bluedots going for b, hopefully they can be your meatshield while you kill whoever is there.
Oh and a Type II Suit with mainly militia bpo mods but a diff weapon is what i tend to use for a cheap fit when it comes to making money, still cheap 20k or so i think per for assault and a little more survivable and still able to rack up plenty of kills. |

Spawn camping. Am I missing something when people say that you 'chose' to spawn there then it is your fault. I am well aware that when there are uplinks on the field then the X button will default to one of those uplinks and you need to select square, I think, to not use them.
Now before re-spawning I do check the map to see if uplinks are being camped and will select the random spawn if they are. However, if the game is biased towards spawning you to the CRU or close as in the middle of a crossfire then what chance do you have of avoiding campers etc.
If there is a way of avoiding Instalations and CRU's that are being camped particualry if the uplinks have been destroyed or are also being camped then could someone please explain how. Especially when you select random spawn and the game decides to put you at the CRU 3 times etc in a row.
In fact my suggestion would be to have the option to spawn somewhere that there are no enemies and not in the open for snipers to get you before you find cover or place a grid over the map so we can manually select which grid we spawn into. |

kal shut the hell up he's obviously older that's why he talks like that it wasn't at all a attack to them. You guys don't understand kindness you get on the post and completely bash his thread for absolutely no reason when there was nothing wrong with it. I have the worse head ache imaginable and I saw nothing wrong this thread at all.
Also I can relate after I took brain damage from ecstasy video games were my escape I might be a little better as the bad situations you are coming across is mostly from being a new player. You have to understand where to spawn and what not... also about the disability there are people out there who can relate including me ^_^ good luck out there. |

You guys are misinformed this isn't about him failing to spawn correctly which he did mention it's asking for a change to the game. Better yet he could have said fix spawn killing which he pretty much did he only gave a personal account to it and why its no fun. If any of you had any reading skills you could have seen that but you were busy criticizing his typing skills. |

The reason he's getting so much **** for this post is probably because of this comment. He's complaining that people are using teamwork and tactics to win. How unacceptable! He doesn't like getting killed on his way to hacking checkpoints and objectives. He feels that the other side should let him walk past them, so he's not "cut off" by enemy troops before he hacks something.
