As described in the thread going on about the dev. blog. The mechanics of attacking and defending districts is terrible. 24 hours to gather a defensive force is way too long a time. I understand that it is to "protect" smaller corps, but it is BS that will practically ensure corporations can have its best out there to fight all the time. I'm sorry but if an alliance can't field a team to defend its territory effectively, they don't deserve to keep it, period. Small corps will need to find allies then or have ISK on hand to pay other mercs to defend their turf.
I know this is a game, but can you imagine this scenario in actual warfare. Oh how history may have been different.
Germany: OK France, we're going to attack you at this location in 24 hours...get ready and make sure you have your best soldiers there with all your best equipment.
France: "kay, thanks for the heads up ******, we'll see you tomorrow at the Maginot line!
Planetary conquest is just going to be corp battles with a tiny bit more meaning and the lack of ability for corps to duck other corps. I'm so disappointed by CCP's hand holding all in the name of "protecting" the little guy thus enabling small factions of no lifers |

New Eden ain't a fairytale; if your corporation shows a sign of weakness the rest of the galaxy will pounce.
This isn't just to protect small corporations. It's to protect the biggest ones; they'll be the ones with the most planets, the most districts, the most places to defend.
That was my reading of it, anyway.
The whole ultimatums thing is more like a war dec in EVE I think, but in general you make good points that I hadn't thought of. I still think the time frame between declaring attacks and fighting the battles should be more like an hour instead of 24 I have resigned to seeing how this system plays before passing any real judgement on how it will function.
I just can't help but think of this system though as same old corp battles but double the size and with some rewards and window dressing and frankly I was hoping for more out of planetary conquest. Hopefully, we will get more later, like different sized battles on different districts/planets.
Also, while I don't play EVE, I loved reading about that huge mess of a battle that happened recently, could a battle like that have happened with a system where one gets 24 hour notice before engaging in corp v. corp pvp?
As for protecting the biggest corps, thats why most of the larger corps, Tritan included, have made alliances so that our allies could watch our backs and vice versa. But you are definitely right in that I didn't think about multiple corporations attacking multiple districts at the same time. So we'll see what happens when we actually get this content.
