So I'm out with a mass driver for the first time, just getting a feel for ranges, and I've gone back to the supply depot a couple of times without hitting anything of significance, when I'm suddenly faced with a tank.

I'm getting ready to split, when a guy comes up with a swarm launcher. I think "ok, I'll cover him" I pop out, pop off a round, and duck back before the tank (blaster fit) can get a bead on me. Swarm dude can't pop back because he's locking on, and he's red paste on the pavement. So, I pop out again, drop a couple of grenades and duck back. I'm not trying to kill the tank. I'm just trying to annoy him and distract him. He's coming in closer, so the next time I pop off two grenades and see them hit. Basically, I'm not doing squat to him as far as I can see, but he hasn't hit me either, so a draw until he gets to my cover, at which point I'm going to be toast. But I'll go down fighting, so I pop out again, drop a couple of grenades on him, and he starts to back off! I'm puzzled, but I keep popping out and dropping grenades on him, and he keeps backing off until he's behind the red line! I'm just about out of grenades, so I boogie for the depot.

That tank had me cold, and I never broke his shields. But I guess the grenades rattled him, or made him think there was more than just a guy in an assault suit against him. Either way, it goes to show that you don't have to kill a tank to beat it, and that sometimes you can win against the numbers.
