Not sure how feasible of an idea this is, but as a player that is new to FPS games and not really familiar with how certain items work, I was thinking it would be great to have some sort of tutorial that shows you just how items work.
For example (and I have to admit to being pretty stupid here, so believe me this isn't fun), I was attempting to run a LOGI build and thought, "Gee, having these nanite injectors would be great! I can bring guys back to life and keep our clone count intact." So as a happy new medic I ran out onto the battle field, saw some dropped allies and I pulled out my injector and pressed the R1 button just like the game prompts me to do.....and nothing happens. Over and over again....and now I am a sitting duck with no weapon, a dead guy at my feet, getting shot at with a needle in my hand....and I die. This happens over and over again. You know why? Because nowhere on any description of the item or on the prompt does it tell you that before you hit R1, you have to crouch down first. I have no idea how I was expected to know this innately.
Now that I cleared that issue up for myself, I have progressed along to a point where I have remote explosives. I've seen these things in action, mainly in skirmishes where you think a checkpoint is all clear and you go in to hack it for your team only to be met with an explosive death. I was thinking I was about to get my revenge! I am on a battle map, I place out my remote explosives....and then I try to figure out what the trigger mechanism is. But, before I can do that the enemies storm the position, hack the checkpoint, then find me nearby trying to figure out why my explosives never went off and I am now dead. Again, nothing in the description of the item and there is no prompt to tell you exactly what the trigger is. And how would I know that the ZOOM IN button (L1) is the trigger mechanism for this when R1 is the trigger for every other weapon or device in the game?
Talking with a couple of people I have also had the idea that a PVP free area be set up so that your character can get a chance to try out new weapons and perhaps have a dummy AI target to practice firing. This way you don't have to cost your team clones while trying to figure out how to aim that shiny new Mass Driver you just purchased and spent a ton of points on to use. This could help in a number of ways. Maybe even have the option of some moving targets so that people like me that are pretty useless right now with shooting could get some practice to help make us better shots. It could help us out figuring out the range on grenades, how to use items like the remote explosives and nanite injectors.
Just a thought, wondering what other people might think of it. |

+1 A crouch before jab? I bet it was working while I was up few days ago. It would explain why i could not rezz anybody last night Thanx for the hint I'll try it next time i'am in game... |

This lack of immersion is a flaw of EVE as well as Dust. I wouldn't keep my hopes up if I were you. CCP has actually tried to do some better tutorials and the likes recently. However....
The complexities of the games... i mean the real nuts and bolts, youre just out of luck. Its something players eventually learn through persistence (if they dont quit), word of mouth, scouring through google/wikis or asking on the forums. |

But regarding the open lobby/training ground -esque area for arbitrary fooling around, I concur it would be a great deal of help. |

Um, you don't. At least, you didn't have to yesterday ;-)

Heh. Yeah. I had the same issue the first time I tried those damn things, too. Could definitely stand to have something in the description about this, or maybe even a HUD thing like when you jump in a vehicle's driver's seat. Change to your REs, and up pops "[R1] to set charges, [L1] to detonate" It would be annoying to people who already know it, (why I think it might be better in the description) but if it weren't too obtrusive, I think we'd get used to it.

As far as that last paragraph and the second point I snipped from your post go, I'd suggest you get with a corporation. I imagine most of the corps have plenty of people who are willing to help their new guys out with stuff like this, and much more. I know we do, anyway.
If you have a microphone, send me an in-game mail. I'm generally pretty willing to help out a tyro.
So, yeah, holler at me if you want, and either way, good luck, and good hunting. |

Thanks for the feedback everybody and I appreciate it.
As for just not being a great FPS player, well, that's just my fault. Never really played them so I just don't have those great skills yet. This is why I haven't really attempted to play any kind of close quarters build right now. With start up gear and lower skill levels and being a noob on top of that I have figured a LOGI and a Sniper were my best bets. I do have an alt that I am trying to build up as a heavy. I have practiced a bit and I am getting better with aiming, but I still have my issues with jumpies and strafers. I know I need practice with shooting to get better and I am willing to invest time into that.
As far as the Nanite Injectors, since I have had to crouch down for so long while using it I just do that by instinct now. I'll give it a shot and see if standing and hitting R1 does the trick or not the next time I have the chance.
I've tried reading through the manuals and such and I noticed that the one CCP has put out is a bit different than some of the things that are actually in this current beta build. Other players I have squaded with have given me pointers here and there and in turn I have tried to pass those along. Searching through FAQs and WIKIs for the exact thing you want to read about also can become very tedious, but yeah, I hear ya.
I think that training ground idea would be pretty good and I've seen |

I've fit LOGI since my second day on the Open Beta, and I have never crouched when using the Nanite Injector. That being said, there are instances where the hitbox for the injector is nowhere near the body (sometimes 10 feet away), but I've rezzed people while strafing. (it wasn't pretty, but it worked) Also sprint ninja-rezzing requires sprinting to the body, so crouching is a no-go.
As an alternate explanation, the body could have timed-out, or bled out to respawn, before you starting trying to jab....
They really need a timer on how long a clone has before bleed-out, both to the player, and to the Logi. |
