I have noticed that doing damage to dropships or even killing them outright is not registering as a kill or an assist.
I have heard that the dropship has to hit the ground for it to register as anything and yet no points are being awarded in those cases, either.
Since I don't think CCP will answer to this directly, anybody else got a clue? |

You can get killpoints for destroying the dropship and passengers. You just have to hit it one last time after it starts to burn and fall towards the ground. I do this often with my forge gun. And sometimes when I miss the final shot I still get kill assist points when the dropship crashes. I have experienced as you that no points are received after the dropship crashes into the ground if I miss the last forge shot at the burning ship. I wonder if it makes any difference if the pilot stays in the ship as it crashes or if he/she manages to jump out before it hits the ground.
I was in squad yesterday, all except me with mics and two was shooting swarm launchers at a dropship. They got it burning and I hit it with my forge gun as it was crashing towards the ground. I got points for both destroying the dropship and its passengers. But my two squad members cursed on the mics that they received no points. They were not aware that I had blown it up with my forge gun |

Dropships only count as a kill when they explode, not when they run out of HP.
When they "die" (run out of armour), there's a "burn time" which gives the passengers a chance to escape before they crash. The Dropship has a measure of "hull" HP that's invisible, though, and you'll get the vehicle kill (and kills on anyone in it, or caught by the explosion) if you can drop THAT layer of HP to zero.
It's been tweaked a few times, and I think it needs to be reduced (and better explained).
Also, LAVs and HAVs used to work similarly, but back then, it seemed like "overkill" damage on the hull of a ground vehicle was applied immediately to the invisible "hull" HP level, while Dropships didn't take hull damage until AFTER the Amrour had been reduced to 0, so they could tank a Forge Gun hit while they're at 2 or 3 Armour, and still have a full "hull" rating to work with.
Another oddity is that, when a Dropship was damaged down to 0 Armour then repaired (with a Repair Tool) before exploding, it would survive if nobody shot it again, and could be repaired back to full armour (with shield regen working normally), but it would never be able to fly, and active modules on the Dropship didn't function. The Turrets were fine though, so it was pretty awesome. |

I don't think assist points would hurt. I mean, even if you shoot a merc before he drops down a mountain side to his death, you get an assist.
I just spent a long time trying to get one down, but he hit a building, bailed, and none of the damage I did counted. Bull.
Anyway, thanks for the explanations. |

The building got the kill in that instance. I've noticed vehicle assists tend to be sketchy if there's a lot of people shooting it, maybe someone else got a lucky shot that stole the assist from you. That or dropships aren't awarding assists, I honestly don't remember getting assist points off killing them all that often/at all this build. |
