I have recently been playing around with a sniper and I have noticed something on this map particularly and I am wondering if others are having the same thing. I have heard rumors that there are some issues with sniper rifle hit detection, but not sure what the details are. Anyway, here is my experience and this happened more than once in the same match:
AMBUSH:
I am on the outcrop of the pipeline building located just at the bottom of cell E-3. I am crouched. I am sniping at people located on the tower closest to the near corner of cell C-3. I hit a couple of people that are standing with no problem whatsoever, but I see a rival sniper has decided to crouch down at the same area. He doesn't see me yet. I aim for a headshot since he's not moving at all. I have a 195% hit chance and I know that 1 shot should drop him. I have a red dot, have his armor info and everything meaning he should be in effective range. I fire.....I see the little blue spark of his armor go off....but he takes absolutely no damage. I am thinking I missed or maybe he moved? I fire again....bingo! Blue armor spark goes off....but he takes absolutely no shield or armor damage. I fire my third shot, and BANG! Blue spark once again, absolutely no damage. I am now in reload phase and I have gotten his attention. He fires back at me and 1 shot kills me.
Okay, that happens. I know there is a sniper vs. sniper thing going on and usually it comes down to who gets the drop and who fires first. If you miss, you're probably dead. But I didn't miss. I hit that guy three times and nothing happened. So, I know he's still there and I want revenge. I go back to my same location as I was before. He's still where he was. I line up another headshot and fire off another two shot that hit him, should have killed him instantly, but instead just show that I hit him and did absolutely no damage. The third shot finally actually registers but since he moved a little I only hit him in the chest and the shot didn't kill him. He returns fire....and drops me again.
Now I am a little upset by that. Is there a bulletproof helmet that DUST isn't telling me about? Did somebody secretly replace my sniper rifle bullets with Folger's Crystals? Because I for sure could tell the difference! Or is there something a little glitchy going on here? |

Just an update on this:
Talking to some other players last night they are telling me that this isn't just a problem on this map. It just so happens that this is the only one I seem to experience this issue. I was told that this actually is fairly common right now and they even offered me a potential fix for it in the meantime. Apparently if you experience this issue you can manually reload your weapon and that should take care of the issue.
My issue is that once I fire off my shots to find out they have no effect, I don't have the time to reload my weapon before my target fires back at me and kills me. But, as with most things I guess if I do it enough I will eventually get the hang of it. I am willing to try this for now. The DEVS have been pretty good about getting back to me on other issues so I am pretty sure they've heard of this issue and are probably working on a fix for it.

I've been encountering a similar problem.
I'm thoroughly enjoying DUST, but hit detection seems to be a lingering issue. Recently in a match, I tried every sniping spot on "line harvest" with a line of sight shot at a sniper in F/G5 (i.e. the south mountain), emptied multiple sniper clips across different lives, all with shield flash, and the sniper took no damage.
I tried manually reloading, moving in and out of zoom, and, as mentioned, changing locations all over the map.
player name, I believe, was something like sparaticusmaaki (that's not quite right but I've searched and i can't seem to find him) he was a member of the Corp: EVE Protection Agency
As I said, I really enjoy Dust, but if sniper hit detection remains as glaring as it currently seems to be, it won't be much fun to play. |
