Starting as rookie assault.
Where would you spend your first skill points and what fitting upgrades would you go for first and why?
Not really sure where I should progress from basic free fittings. |

Start as arbiter, get a basic AR. Go for a type-II assault suit + shield extenders (complex). Then get a GEK. Work on some light weapon upgrades (like sharpshooter for range). Weaponry also gives some extra damage. You can search for other threads about this kind of stuff, but that should get you moving in the right direction. |

So, look for that gear on the market, then check what skills are required, train those skills. Buy and fit the gear? Are those items I can get into pretty quick or no? I make about 5k skill points per match, so far. |

train the skills you need to make your militia setup as powerful as you can, your going to spend alot of time in cheap gear so if you put points into your passives (sharpshooter/weaponry/shield regen/cpu/powergrid/passive shield and armor etc etc) you will have an edge over people rocking poorly trained type II and B |

So you recommend spending points first in skills for things I already have. That increase damage, range and shielding. Skills that improve CPU and power only help if I buy upgraded fitting?
I have a fair amount of cash and thought I could by a better shield or armor piece. Was curious if that would be worth it. Then eventually get a better gun.
Couldn't find any skill calculators or parts list on google, has anyone created that yet? |

It's not that complicated... lol What'll help more is if you use the search feature on these forums to find some starter threads :P
The starter fits work just fine too. You can do great using the Assault - Frontline set on a new character without spending any sp on anything. Personally, I'd make a couple of changes to the suit, but that's up to you.
The biggest thing for me would be getting rid of the Militia AR. The basic AR (lvl 1) has 60 bullets in a mag. I'd upgrade PG/CPU only when I needed it to fit better gear. Upgrading the light weapon skills is always good for someone using a light weapon. I'd get shield extenders and type-II assault suit pretty quickly though because it's so good. Put points here and there in infantry skills, no need to max anything out ASAP. |

Thanks again, I do appreciate all the help!
I get confused with the CPU and power number and all the fittings. I also have trouble with the skills that reduce requirements by 5 %, etc. a parts list and skill calc would help my maths.
I was mainly curious what are the biggest bang forthe buck with regard to fitting, suit and weapon upgrades. I can search the forums for sure, if this type of info is posted in a searchable thread.

i'm not really a pro lol.
So I wouldn't get the "reduce weapon CPU usage by 5%" type skill for a long time. You'll get more out of the skill circuitry which increases any dropsuit and vehicle's CPU.
ATM you have limited options, but you can go to the militia section of the market and purchase everything. Just sit down, make some fits, see what works and what does not. You can see what the better players are using too. |

0 try harder is spot on, only skill I would max to 5 is weaponry, it gives 10% damage boost. Frontline starter fits are decent for saving money while working on skills for your future clone of death. Definately work on shield boost and shield enhancements as this allows access to standard modules which use less cpu and pg than militia modules. You will want to invest some sp in dropsuit command as this is necessary for the advanced suits down the road.Sharpshooter and assault and small arms proficiency will be something you want to keep in mind also. Most of all search the threads and come back here and ask. Watch what and how more experienced players do it on the battlefield, that's the best help of all.. |

Excellent !! I'll look to upgrade the AR, and get some better shield fittings. I feel like my shooting is a bit weak, so upgrading my shields would be most helpful. I switched to kb/m, because most all my fps experience is with those. It has helped me a bit. I still get ripped pretty quick sometimes :). Any sage advice on extenders vs rechargers? |

I'm sometimes better with KB+M, but you should know that in this game a controller is much better. The keyboard movement makes me... You can use a controller and a mouse at the same time, but then you have to let go of your mouse and switch to the controller if you want to press X, Square, circle, or triangle. Throwing grenades can also be kind of awkward.
I'm doing this too, but if you really want to get better you should practice with a controller for some of your playtime.

Also useful but requires more SP: Shield Boost Systems (Increases Shield Recharge Rate) Shield Control (Increases Shield)
There are other skills that will benefit all roles but these will have a bigger impact on your character and should be learned early on. |

Thanks spy !! That is exactly the type of stuff I was looking for. How would start spending your first couple hundred thousand isk for gear? |
