I heard that a ranking system coming. I don't know how the system will work, I just wanted to give my input.
In other shooters, ranking are done by level. At level 1 is private, level 2 is Private 1st Class and so on. So the rank really doesn't mean anything. The way I see it is, Corporations are like militaries. My idea is that every merchant is labeled Fa until they join a corporation. And corps be set up with ranks. The corporation leader will be the top rank, like Commander and Chief. Then he/she assigns officer ranks too people in the corporation that they chose. The officers then promote the enlisted corp member to still higher enlisted ranks based on performance (with either approval of 3 other officers and from the Corp CC (Commander and Chief))
All corp members start as E1 Private and can make their way too higher enlisted ranks (If they earn it). The only way to make officer is through a promotion from the Corp CC. Then you can advance through the officer ranks as commissioned by the Corp CC.
This would give more meaning to ranks and make them earned by performance and hard work with your corp, and not from grinding to level up. |

Not really.
Lots of people not in corps. Lots of small corps of nobodies who would all rank 'generals', get rap3d by Imps, QQ.
Check out www.Dust514stats.com ChribbaX's combo rating is the best solution to this problem. |

I know not everyone is in a corp. Without a corp we're just solo mercs. And mercenaries have no rank thus making joining a corporation and earning a ranking more important.
And for the nameless corps off friends. It doesn't matter if they rank up eachother. Rank will be in that corporation if you leave a corporation your restart for the next corporation you join. It's up to the leader of your new corporation if you return to your former rank. And being a general in a no name corporation is a big difference in being a general in a major corporation.

i'm sure we will be able to provide a ton of different ranking statistics on sites like dustboard and dust514stats once CCP allows us to start use CREST.

Ranks within a corp, and a "ranking system" like a leaderboard should be two completely separate things.
And Corp ranks should be customisable and controlled by the CEO/Directors. |

bored one day I started playing with numbers and feel this equation yet simple, is worth looking at:
Total War Points divided by Kill/Death Ratio divided by Total Kills = Player Difficulty
I played with this with people in my contacts along with people in the Higher Leaderboard positions and have noticed based on my own playing experience that the people with a lower P.D. (as low as 2 that I've calculated so far) are the opponents that tend to be more difficult to deal with on the battlefield while players with a P.D. as high as 600 (again only sample data) are the ones that aren't nearly as troublesome. So I offer a Difficulty scale from 0-1000 as Follows:
First Class: P.D. = 0.001-10 (I really don't know if it's even possible for someone to achieve a P.D. of 0.001) Second Class: P.D. = 10.1-35 Third Class: P.D. = 35.1-80 Fourth Class: P.D. = 80.1-160 Fifth Class: P.D. = 160.1-400 Sixth Class: P.D. = 400.1-1000 The class ranges might need some adjustment
As players do better or worse their P.D. will naturally rise and fall allowing them to face opponents that are always within their own ability. I don't know how well it would work over a longer period of time, but for now it seems to be pretty fair.
Go ahead and try it out using only the people in your contact list that you've played with and against and I think there is a good chance you will agree. |

I just think that in a game like this rank should mean something. Everyone can't be a general, that's not realistic. This game already does better with the corporation system than every other fps has with clans and guilds. Getting your rank from your corp would work pretty well with the current corporate structure. |

Some suggestions for these: GÇó per hour stats. The most telling statistics about players activity and ability, if its possible to get from CCP. GÇó per fight type stats. Things like WLR don't tell much, if public afk farming is included. Division by high/low/nullsec could help, also in determining how strong corps are in FW etc. GÇó no artificial, "secret formula" scores. Just a multitude of specific stats to track for measuring and personal development. GÇó isk efficiency stat, if at all possible. This should be asked from devs as a stat measured in the end of games. |

In EVE Online Corporations there are text boxes underlying character names in show info portraits. Basically, only certain members in corporations can change these text boxes (like CEOs). Corporations like EVE University have a ranking system like the one described by editing this info box and placing the rankings of each member in the box so it is openly displayed under their character name. I think a system like this would be easy to implement and very helpful in Dust 514 corps. +1 |

Eve already have "ranks" for corp members. Ceo's and directors can create titles and give roles to corp members.

I don't mean have a corp rank. I mean getting/earning rank BY joining a corp and working within that corp to rank up.
In your character sheet it could say something Like:
Dethpuke Master Sargent:Planetary Response Organization
And a rank abbreviation in front of name: [MgSt] Dethpuke |

You can do that in eve, many corps do. You only have to Create thoose "titles" and, if you wish, add privileges to them. What i'm saying is that if your corp want to name titles based on RL military you can do it but you shouldn't ask to force the same title on others corporations. |
