1) Is it viable? When I mean viable, is it something that can be effective at the highest levels of competition? If so, how well do you do? Do you always have to engage someone from behind to win? Or can you and the enemy see each other come from cover at the same time, and you still have a good chance of winning said engagement, or is running necessary?
2) Where does the smg win? For example, up close vs. AR user? Mass driver user? Is there a range where it has advantage over shotgun? Does it require high levels of sidearm sharpshooter to gain said advantage? Is this considering the enemy also has the same level of sharpshooter range too?
3) Is it not viable, thus why it's a sidearm? Lol
4) Does it do better in a certain game mode? Better in skirmish? Better in ambush? If good in ambush, how many kills do you average? I ask this to judge how many encounters a player is having while using smg's to relate to playstyle. Also if reporting kills keep in mind I am asking for smg kills, not grenades or remote explosives as these can be used with any build.
I have seen the dual smg vid, seems more like an exception rather than a new discovery.
Thank you in advance to anyone taking the time to read/respond to my post /questions.

Its a very viable build.
Some SMG scouts run double SMG's, others combine it with Nova Knives or SHotguns.
Scouts can strafe like theres no tomorow so a a guy who skills into SMG use, range, and damage mods cam create a very damaging short range, high ROF build.

1) well yes it can work but it works mostly like scoutgun scouts. 2)if you plan on doing it go for shields and you CAN win vs HGM, AR's, most MD user, lasers, FG, snipers in close range. btw its a sidearm so sp for it cheaper on the sp to skill it up but the range is close to shotguns so while you can out range them slightly and still do ok damage they are going to be a hard enemy but could come out with a win. 3) its a sidearm becuase its small like the pistol thats it and trust me they both are viable at close ranges 4)skirmish it usually does better, range is not friendly with ambush matches in most maps plus the enemy is most scattered so easier for close range 1VS1s 5) i use the assault smg as best friend, some might tell you the breach is better due to damage per clip but damage per second is better plus breach has less range then normal while assault has more range. weaponry 5 smg op 2 usaully 35% of my kills are smg kills per match but would suggest maxing them out if you plan on using them as your main weapon. |

As I appreciate the response what I am asking for is a much more detailed account of this build. This is why I have numbered the questions and asked specific questions about this build to give not only me, but anyone else interested in this build concrete evidence that smg scout is viable.
In the example you provided, although you were somewhat specific in a build where smg scout can do well, it doesn't aid much in the overall question. How viable is it? And what circumstances make it so?
Ill try to clarify using your example. If someone is using you above mentioned build, and they come across a shotgunner or AR user, or any other weapon, does the smg scout have the advantage? If so, under what circumstances? I ask this last part because if the smg user only has an advantage if they get the drop on their enemy, then that does not make the weapon viable as one can argue that using probably any other weapon in the game, would also give the scout the advantage.
Once again I appreciate your input, and any further input the thread may receive, thank you for your time.

You're better off using Assault Type-2. You can stack more shields and even have space for profile dampener. The higher speed of the Scout is not significant and not worth for -100 shields less. |

No mention of flux nades yet?
Use flux nades to pop shields before you close in with the smg. Kinetic (smg/hmg) weapons are weak vs shields but strong vs armor so if you can strip the shields you can finish them off with relative ease.
I run an SMG scout from time to time, and this is the build I use.
High slot: precision enhancer (shield extender would work too...) Low slot 1: plate Low slot 2: Armor repper (prioritize this for cpu usage.) Weapons: Dual smgs, flux nades Equipment: compact nanohive (more to heal than to replenish ammo.)
With a short range weapon like the SMG i find it vital to have a low profile and good scan skills to keep myself from getting shot up as I close in.
Others here speak very highly of the type two assault if you would rather just have more shield tank, though. It's your call about your personal play style.

I have a Scout Build I just started using yesterday. He has the Toxin SMG BPO that came with the Mercenary Pack and he has a Nova Knife and Grenades.
However, the only way I use him is to drop uplinks at useful locations on the map. He can move very quick and I have noticed enemy players have a hard time hitting me and generally ignore me after they see I am not shooting back.
Now, once I drop my uplinks, it is time to play, and I have SMG skilled up to 3 and it really does ok as long as I can strafe faster than the enemy can track me. I also tend to hang back and wait for enemies to get engaged by someone else and I try to flank or come in from the rear.
The support WP from the uplinks is nice and I have gotten some cool kills with him, especially the Knife kills, enemies seem to freak when they have me slashing in their face.
Not the BEST build I have but it def has a place. When they bring out the cloaking devices for scout dropsuits... oh man it will be EPIC!

I use a scout with the following for my SMG build:
Dragonfly dropsuit Low slot: Armor repair, stamina enhancer Hight slot: Shield extender
1.) It's viable. I'm not sure how effective it would be at the highest levels b/c I'm not there but I think it would do fine. I typically get 5-6 kills w/ specifically the SMG. My main aim is not to get kills, but to hack/retake objectives so maybe I could double that perhaps if the goal was to kill enemies. I have seen others do very well. I try to engage from behind or flank, and to this extent the scout suit and increasing your DS command and profile damping make a big difference on sneaking up on folks. Kills come quickly when you get behind someone and aim for the head. Head to head fights are a challenge but as others have mentioned strafing is key. Additionally, people can panic when they get sprayed with that many bullets, as the SMG puts out a lot so sometimes the panic effects their ability to aim/take cover etc... As for running, it's not necessary but you need to know when to bail out anytime you are in a scout suit.
2.) SMG wins up close, no doubt about it. I don't have more than level 1 in the SMG or sharpshooter and I do best when up close in shotgun range. You can kill farther out but it's more difficult as the range is limited and this plays to the advantages of other weapons. If you can get in close and hose people down the lower tier suits can fall quick. Even heavies can go down more quickly than expected. I tend not to engage at medium "AR" distance, as the AR, LR, HMG pretty much all other weapons have an advantage here (perhas this would be negated if I invested more heavily in sharpshooter).
3.) It's small and meant as a last resort, thus it's a sidearm. I'd say it's viable, but it's a more challenging play style, at least to me.
4.) I agree it does better in skirmish where you have room to be more strategic instead of the typical ambush matches which are line-up face offs (or tank battles).
5.) I've only used the toxin SMG, so no comment on others. I'm certainly not beasting. Weaponry lvl 4.
