We don't have anything to add to what Sony presented in their press conference other than the fact they've been a great partner, we talk with them all the time about these things and we've got a lot of confidence for Dust on PlayStation 3 today and living on as a service on next-generation platforms and beyond from there. But no dates or anything like that that we could talk about at this time.

Well considering all things aside that this is how marketing or people from marketing do talk its just basically says that CCP already knew there was a PS4 on the way and already had thought of a future after the PS3. As for lack of anything concrete I would have to blame Sony in this case because they seemed just as unsure about how they're going to do backwards compatibility, either way just because nothing is announced now doesn't mean stuff in the future cannot be announced. |

PS3 uses completely different hardware & software than PS4 will and will make game incompatible between the two naturally.
Dust 514 is in an interesting spot right now being in perpetual Open beta with no release date and PS4 on the horizon.
I don't see CCP having the money to simultaneously finish the current version of Dust 514 and produce an entirely seperate PS4 version.
The statement read to me like they are sticking with the PS3 for now, which makes sense really given the amount of REAL MONEY players have already spent on the beta.
realistically, in order for them to put the game on PS4, they would probably have to cease or slow down production on the PS3 beta NOW to start working on the PS4 version.
Although who knows, maybe they do have the money to make both versions of the game.
Either way, i refuse to spend any more real money on this game until i hear some concrete plans on what the devs are going to do with it. Besides, it's a beta...and i DON'T PAY FOR BETAS. Period! |

Unreal Engine is platform agnostic. Go read about it.
I've said it many times before: I guarantee that CCP are currently developing Dust on UE4 and pushing all assets back to an UE3 version for the PS3 client.
In short, Dust will run on PS4 AND PS3 simultaneously.

"Don't see CCP having the money"............??
I guess Eve subscriptions and AUR purchases go to donations to Scientology then, huh? |

Need to think of it the other way around...
Create hi resolution assets for UE4 and just scale them down for UE3. |

At a rough guess, for eve 500,000 subscriptions x7.99 (7.99 to account for people taking deals) a month.
There is a excess of PLEX on the market, alot more people buy plex and sell them in game than people who pay for thier subscribtion through plex. So say 3000 PLEX are bought a month at 14.99
Thats $4,039,970 dollars a month
$48,479640 annually minimum. (obviously subtract, rent, salaries and investor profits)
MW2 cost $40 million to produce. For a one time product. ($250m was spent on producing the disks). Call of duty: black ops cost roughly $22 million to produce. Halo 4 cost $40 million to produce.
This does not include the amount they already make from Dust which is being produced on the cheap (by western standards) in china.
Also CCP are very skilled at producing great games at cost. Eve was designed orginally to run with 5000 subscribers.

Comments are a bit scary, tho. I know we may comfort ourselves that this isn't the game for everyone, but still saddens me. |
