The solution surely can be as simple as you can only drive that vehicle IF you have the required skills, or if you want to jump on one of the vehicles turrets you need to have the required skills for that turret. This will stop vehicle players taking vehicles they aren't skilled in. Plus this stop the possibility of Tank spam where one player can call down a load of tanks and anyone can jump in them. |

Also kinda of bad because most vehicles require close to no skill.
For about 60k you can fly anyone dropship currently in game (because the tier 3's are worse). for close to nothing you can mount any turret.
Why can't you people just accept that a toggle Vehicle Driver Seat Lock, and eject position option is the only way to fix all this. And the simplest |

Meh. Just don't leave your car unoccupied and running in front of a gang of teenage hoodlums, man.
I guess I think of it a little like the whole "the referree is 'part of the field'" concept in football. You know how if you run into the ref and fumble or whatever, it's not interference. Or, for you fans of that other kind ;) of football, if your keeper kicks the ball into the official, and the opposing forward is there and knocks it right in the goal, well, that sucks, but it's a goal. The blue dots are part of OUR field. Sure, they're largely ignorant of what you'd like them to do. Sure, they get in the way more often than not. Sure, they come out in their Medic Starter Fit suits and don't ever use the nanite injector. It's part of the game.
If I lose a 150k ISK suit because I came out in it, got shot up, and didn't get picked up by the blueberries, well, balls. I guess I'm out 150k, then. Shouldn't've used THAT suit in that situation, huh?
I don't mean to seem dickish. I understand your concerns, dude, I really do. I don't think an eject button or a door lock is the appropriate solution, though.
One thing I'd like to see would be a pilot's proximity chat kind of thing. Like, if I'm in your HAV or DS or whatever, when you speak, I hear it. Automatically, and unavoidably. Hell, make it over the game's SFX channel, even. Then players who haven't got headsets and haven't set up voice should still hear you.
If I just spawned in, and see a dropship, and am planning to go to, say, C, I might just jump in. You know, easier than walking.
If we had this pilot's in-vehicle broadcast thing (or just regular proximity chat!) and you're telling your guys "ok, when I get over B ...," maybe I'll bail out and head to my squad's destination on foot. Or, maybe I'll tell my SL I'll be there in a few, and help you guys make your assault on B. I know, that's just me, but, if you're able to talk to the blueberries that are causing you such stress, some of 'em will probably listen and might even obey.
I guess my point is that I think the better solution to these kinds of problems is communication, not ejector seats. And definitely not locks. If someone gets sniped after calling in a vehicle, what, I'm not cool enough to use the tank they stupidly called in while standing in a sniper's crosshairs? Pfft. |

this shouldn't be to complicated.
add two options to the fittings section
the two options would restrict the driver deat, and the gunner seats to the following options.
open to all, open to squad, and locked.
only the owner of the vehicle can use the driver seat in the locked mode.
if it's hacked they would all default to open.
the owners would choose the settings that they want when they set it up. |

How about we pay for our vehicles when we request them? Locking it to only yourself maybe?
Or even a PIN code for the vehicle and anybody who doesn't know the PIN has to hack it (so if the driver dies or leaves people can at least use the vehicle). |

Problem with this is what I posted in another thread: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=62728&find=unread
"This is another HUGE problem.
The timer for the owner of a vehicle to get in after RDV drop is TOO LOW. It's about 3-5 seconds. Problem is the enter vehicle button is glitchy. It pops in and out sometimes (at least on dropships). IF you try to wait for the button to show up again for you THEN a random blue gets in first, flies off and loses you a million isk. FUN!
or... IF You try to spam O to get in while the button is glitching THEN You might well get in the vehicle first, but could be in any random seat or turret and have to cycle to the proper driver seat WITHOUT over cycling, and faster than the blues who already have access can get in, fly off your ship and lose you a million isk. FUN
This, CCP, is Bull*$%^" |

I still come back to the fact that in EVE, you can't use what you can't fly. Just because I have the skills to fly a milita dropship does not mean I have the skills to fly a higher level dropship, just like in EVE where just because I have the skills to fly a frigate does NOT mean I have the ability to fly a stealth bomber.
Long story short, I agree with OP. +1 |

Except in eve, in the middle of the battle you have no reason to get your capsule out of your ship, fire off some shots, repair your ship, drop a non hive, etc.
ALSO In eve you don't have other players INSIDE your ship, who by the press of a button when you exit (which you wouldn't do in eve) they can fly off to destroy your ship and watch your cap shrink away in the distance.
The drastically different nature of these games needs to consider the different features.
Also in DUST either currently or within a few weeks/months basically anyone/everyone will have the skills to ride most vehicles. That does not mean they should be able to steal them from their own team.
I suggest that if a vehicle is HACKED by an ENEMY team then all skill requirements / locks go out the window. But as long as the vehicle is on the team of the player who called it in, that owner should have the ability to lock the driver seat (before the vehicle even deploys) AND eject anyone who is wasting a slot inside it. |

How about putting on the vehicles name of the character who requested them?
The current situation is not that simple to call everyone who climbs your vehicle a thief: When several players call in RDV at once (via D-pad) and they all are close to each other, how do you tell it is actually yours vehicle when it drops next to you? I'm always in doubt when i see over players near by and call in LAV. Is it really mine? Or am i a dirty thief? Maybe mine is scheduled to arrive few seconds later?
Just put our names on vehicles. There will be less doubts. When you die your vehicle becomes nameless. |

Makes sense, but I hope it doesn't mean anyone with Caldari HAV skill 1 can drive a Gunnlogi with all the top modules, if there is a single module you don't have the skill for, you shouldn't be able to pilot it. |

the problem isn't with stealing LAVs. that's bound to happen, and you'll usually get an LAV it just may not be yours. the problem is with expensive tanks and dropships. Most blueberries will jump in a tank or dropship no matter who's it is. when I have a million ISK invested in a tank Its not for random blueberries; Its for me.
If you have a random steal your tank or DS just remember his name, and corp if he's in one; Then wage your own personal war against them.

You want to get the easy SP from tanking and the hacking SP because you could outrun infantry on foot, too.
If you get out to hack, I'm going to take your ride if I find it useful at the time.
I may just move it out to an area that's inconvenient to you.
I don't get rewarded significantly for winning a skirmish, so why should I also help you get a comfy 1500 SP @ match?
You left ISK on the ground, i just picked it up. |

My thoughts on how to fix all these shenanigans:
If you are the owner of the tank, hit O (circle) which deposit's you directly into the drivers seat, as per the usual, no fuss no muss. If you are a squad mate or random blueberry: -hit O (circle) which automatically deposit's you into one of the gunner seats, or in the DS' case, into the first available seat
-OR-
HOLD square, initiating a "manual override", which upon completion unlocks the drivers seat, similar to enemy hacking. the difference between enemy hacking and a manual override, is manual override would generate no WP, and take half the time of an enemy hack. This would allow the owner to have time to hop in before the random thief can run off with his tank/DS, but would also allow team mates fast(er) access to the vehicle in case of the owners untimely death when calling it down. |

My own personal war, yes I remember the person now, Kill-em-quick had a guy who stole my tank recently. He didn't even have any levels of field mechanic or shield control, I know, I saw the armor and shields of the tank not get boosted up at all. KEQ probably just hires a bunch of retardo-babies from the sewers of new york to play in their corp. |

I don't like this, the cool thing about Battlefield is you can jump into a tank and just go. Why do you want to hide even more really cool features behind a wall of skills and make the game even more unaccesable to new players? If my corp mate dies, I call dibs on his tank.
The solution to this seems to be, STOP using expensive tanks in PUBs. Thats like taking a Ferrari to the ghetto. You are gonna get jacked. Use your free car in pubs and save the tanks for the Corpies. |

Why do we keep having this discussion on the forum?
Limit vehicles and turrets to those with required skills: Yes Door locks, priority seating etc: No
Dont like your vehicles getting stolen in public matches? Spawn them somewhere safe, or not at all! Dont like your vehicles getting stolen in Corp matches? Deal with your corp-mate! Dont like other people spawning your vehicles in unsafe locations? Oh wait, only you can do that!!
Meanwhile, don't bother disturbing CCP's development team with these inane requests about features, that simply aren't required. |
