I know we are going to be able to do things like clear out drone infestations but how about letting us run missions for NPC corporations. Levels would range from levels 1 to 5 and training missions, training missions would be given to players who first joined Dust, players could run all training missions to completion or skip over them.. If that player wanted to he could go to level 1 missions and gain standing with a specific NPC corporation until he got to level 5 missions. Drone infestations wont offer enough variety let players run NPC missions! Missions would gain isk and skill points from gaining in game war points, bounty rewards if in a military mission, and mission rewards like sp, isk, and extra items like officer weapons on level 4 and up missions. NPCs can be run for independent organizations like Sansha nation or one of the four factions Caldari, Amarr, Gallente, or Minmitar.
Missions can be ran in squads of 4 maybe also have a way for players to connect to a mission like sending a request to join to a player. The player would receive the request in his notifications and then join the mission the host invited him to with other squad maters or players. In EVE you can have 100 people running a mission it doesn't matter but players who want to run them for isk efficiency mostly solo. This is because they do not have to split salvage, bounty, mission reward, and anything else a mission might offer up in isk. |

Totally down with this Eris. In fact I'm so down with it that I got this crazy little idea of PvE missions being created both by NPC's and Player-Empires out in 0.0 and possibly Low-Sec by the investment in "Colonies" and consequentially "Empires".
It's a little old, but I just got back into the game a little while ago, but feel free to blow some life back into the PvE fire my friend ^^

I don't see the fundamental difference between this and clearing infestations for gameplay; either way you're fighting AI. Please provide some details about the enemy groups, enemy types within each group, mission types, and how various mission types should be accomplished. |

It's based on running missions for corporations, NPC corporations exist in EVE and they should as well in Dust. It would allow a reward system in Dust because dust at the moment is all about loss and not so much about gain. It would give players away outside of pve, and pvp and into missions which could be done solo. In fact in EVE as well there is pvp, pve, and missions all though missions are some what of a pve system they are not completely the same thing. |

Mission types would be military which include killing pirates who have set up small bases on planets, distributing/escorting items from one base to another say escorting valuable parts like proto suits or tanks. etc etc I need some help with the ideas ;) |

Lastly if you don't understand the importance of bringing missions to Dust you don't understand the importance of having quest in WOW. Missions is another name for quest and is in almost game possible so is pve, and pvp. PVE is being out in the wild collecting herbs or killing things while missions are a bit different because there requested from a certain person in EVE's case an organization. While EVE missions have no real storyline or plot they are still a good part of the game and offer players a bonus system for those who are willing to risk their ships. Variety in dust missions if this system is implement would come to the developers and while I could offer up some ideas lets leave that to CCP. |

But gameplay wise, how would killing a bunch of pirates or some other targets for a mission be different than killing a bunch of drones? I don't understand your point about it being different from PVE. Mission from an NPC or not, its PVE if you're fighting AI enemies. Drone infestations will be missions anyway, some NPC gives you a contract to get rid of their drone problem, you do the job, and get paid. Even regular regular public battles joined throgh matchmaking are just battles where you're fighting on a behalf of warring corporate NPCs (NPC corps already exist in Dust). I am not against what you are suggesting, but I don't understand the distinction between "mission" and a regular battle since regular battles (and the upcoming PVE infestation) are jobs from NPC corporation.
That being said, I would love to see a greater variety of AI enemy groups aside from rogue drones, different battle environments (like boarding and fighting inside a pirate ship), and different battle objectives. I would also enjoy the ability to fight a variety of enemy groups (including rogue drones) by myself, or with a group.
EDIT: I read your other post, I get the difference now. A battle is just one battle, but a mission/quest is a series of things you have to do that can take more than one battle to complete, and even some non-combat things. |

level 1 to 5 would make it a bit different instead of just killing drones players would be able to take part in different level missions. The lower ones would be easier for newer players but would have less mission reward after doing certain amount of level 1s they would unlock level two and soon on to level 5 which would give better rewards, isk, and sp. Also there is no way to gain security status at the moment missions would do this. |

i think we are half agreeing half argueing the same ide aall though mine has a bit more diversity to it like different missions, sec gain, and lvl 1 to 5 missions. So i guess you could call it an expansion on something they are already implementing. |

I like the idea of a level 4 Agent Mission in Dust being something that is virtually impossible for a person to solo. However, we are immortal clone soldiers, there is absolutely nothing saying we can't burn up quite a few clones in order to get a mission done.
In Eve, few pilots fly a ship in PvE that they think they have a snowball's chance in hell of losing. For example, I often fly a Rattlesnake in level 4 security missions and at no point have I ever felt remotely close to losing the thing.
Loss in Eve and loss in Dust are totally different beasts. Loss in Dust is BEYOND a foregone conclusion. You WILL die (probably many thousands of times by the time you call it quits on Dust) and there is no guarantee of that in Eve. Even in PvE, I fully expect multiple deaths as a merc.
I imagine taking on a high paying contract from a NPC Corp that takes me and a select few, with our clone bank on board, to a low-sec or null-sec site. The scientists working the site haven't reported in ages and our employer wants to know what the slice is. We fly out there (maybe this particular "high end" mission requires an Eve capsuleer escort?...or perhaps we have to hire either an Eve pilot or the stock NPC pilot at varying cost and risk) We dock at the abandoned orbital science research facility in search of missing laboratory data that our employer desperately wants to find. The place is creepy, half-lit and obviously someone or something has humped the bunk. BAM! We have to fight Sleepers/Rogue Drones/Space Pirates, risking dropsuits, weapons and money in the process. Our level of success would be determined by our losses, the difficulty by the Agent level (like Eve) and all with the possibility (maybe) of being stranded, losing all our clones and failing or meeting with great success and, perhaps, even finding some high tech gizmos to sell or use along the way.
All the elements of an Eve mission. NPC enemies, a set of instructions to find/kill/investigate/etc..._____ and the possibility to grab some high tech salvage/loot along the way. A modest payout with NO GUARANTEE that it will cover potential losses should we not be up to snuff.
Concerning the actual OP...I agree with your request but you aren't requesting anything that hasn't been well and truly discussed in multiple other threads. Is there something SPECIFIC you have in mind other than just "PvE missions?"
There is one thing in your last couple posts I zeroed in on like a piece of fixed artillery: SP gain for running missions. I am extraordinarily wary of that concept. I guess as long as you hit the cap whether you are doing PvE or PvP, then I don't really care...but I still think running missions should yield more ISK and salvage than be a mode for grinding SP without as much risk as PvP... |

I think a cool pve mission for a corporation would be to attack an npc stronghold and if they suceed they take that as their own stronghold and can build/upgrade structures on it and can defend it like how we are goin to have to defend districts in planetary conquest. The structures could be cru's, instillations, walls, bridges(depending on how the stronghold is setup), some type of kennel (for taming alien wildlife to help defend the stronghold) . If the attackers win they get a certain percentage on the value of that stronghold. For example, say the defending corp has spend 200mil on their base, if the attacker wins they get 20-50mil as a reward. This would be a good incentive since the defending team will have a home team advantage if they have set up their stronghold right. |

more structures would include a mining facility as well as a manufacturing facility so dust players could eventually create their weapons, suits, vehicles or sell the resources for profit. Of course this would mean skills would have to be in place that CEO's and Directors would have to skill in to or have it as a team effort and make it where it gets better example. 2% increase per level and 5 members have it maxed therefor the mine is running at a 150% efficiency |

I would like to see Agent Missions in DUST, done similar to how they are in EVE. It would be a great mechanic in DUST. |
