LADY REDLINE
We all know the infamous redline we have come to love or hate or maybe both. Even though you don't want to be there as it kills your clone in 20 seconds upon entering the border, you may have realized at some point in your life that going through the redline can mean the difference between getting pinned down by the enemy and escaping/surprising the enemy.
Let's review what we already know about Lady Redline for those players who just recently joined in.
- She only likes you for 20 seconds. After that you will be shown why she can be such a ***** if you stick around too long.
- She prefers those who are fast and elusive. Thus she sees it as a challenge whenever someone crosses her and manages to get away with it. Sorry, she doesn't take it slow.
- If you get to know her a little, she will reveal secrets to you that others don't know.
As you can see, distance is not an issue here; only time. A well-fitted and fully trained prototype scout vk.0 suit could potentially cross up to two football fields in that 20 second time frame. That is a lot of distance to cover. This can be a key advantage if you feel like wreaking havoc on players who snipe probably from within their redline.
Time is not the only issue here, though. As you sprint through the redline, you will encounter obstacles that will force you to take a detour. Because of this, it is best to first investigate the path before taking a chance with expensive gear like your proto scout vk.0. If you have a drop uplink fitted onto a cheap throw-away suit, place an uplink near the starting point in case you fail (make sure you hide it well). Once you have confirmed a good route through the redline, keep a mental or visual note of everything you see and encounter there along the way. Then go suicide yourself and respawn in your proper gear so that you can make your plan of attack.
Often times you will find a path that can lead past enemy fortifications. This is because most players don't think anyone is crazy enough to cross into the redline. One clear example is Manus Peak in Ambush mode:

The southern redline can, in some map variants, provide sufficient cover for a fast scout trying to outflank the enemy that has fortified themselves on the Eastern side. Once you have emerged from the opposite side, the enemy will be in front of you but will likely be facing away from you as they are busy pinning down your team. This can be a perfect chance to start lobbing grenades, spraying at them with an SMG, or picking them off with knife attacks.
The redline can also be used to escape assaults and even heavies because they are too slow and more likely have too much expensive gear to even risk chasing you into the redline. A scout on the other hand may be able to follow but it's likely he/she may not know the return path as you do. And if the return path is filled with detours, it can often be scary for your pursuer if he/she find themselves lost and not enough time to get out before Lady Redline claims them.
As you can see, the redline has many things to offer and can often times be the safest place to be (ironically) if you are in a bind and need to be in the proud republic of 'out of here'.
Skills that compliment this:
Vigor (bonuses for stamina recovery and and amount per level) Endurance (bonus for stamina amount per level) Mobility (no bonuses, but allows you access to better kinetic catalyzer modules)
The Scout vk.0 offers the advantage of fitting 3 low-slot modules which are perfect for the boost needed. Also, I recommend equipping a sidearm so that you can sprint a wee bit faster. Also, if your Vigor skills are good, you can just keep tapping the L3 button repeatedly whenever you are about to run out of stamina so that you stamina levels can recover slowly while you sprint. It's pretty certain you will run out of stamina in about less than 20 seconds anyways so you may need the extra boost.
I hope this helps you all regardless if you're a shotgunner, SMG pray-n-sprayer, hacking scout, or ninja knifer.

My dropship shuns Lady Redline, preferring to tango with Mistress Ariel Redline. She's much more beautiful, and so much more flexible. |

I love ramming my vehicle into Lady Redline to smear the hood with some red stains. Though after a few in-and-out rushes, I get a little over excited and I'm not very good at pulling out in time and usually pop inside.

I love the redline, usually I get a bunch of noobs to pile in a LAV with me then I floor it as far out as I can get so we all explode, or I ghost ride it out right in front of an enemy HAV and watch them get dissected by its turrets, I laugh till tears roll every time! |

Loving the personification.
And Chankk, dude.
And whilst redline runs are good, I have a feeling that in the (hopefully) near future, they won't be used very much or at all with the bigger maps |

Actually, they will still be used regardless of the bigger maps because they still allow a skilled scout to bypass some fortifications assuming the enemy has setup forts near the redline. But that only means that the redline is very situational and its usefulness will be heavily dependent on the placement of structures and facilities as well as how effective the mercs are in scouting the area for infiltrators. |
