As a Shotgun Scout, I can safely say that the best defense against one of us is a good clear field of fire. Open ground DOES NOT LIKE ME.
Learn to watch for more than just the red hats we get when your sensors pick us up - especially as a Heavy, your scan precision sucks even worse than everyone else. Watch for MOVEMENT first, and friend-or-foe second.
Wherever possible, engage us well outside our preferred range. Even SMGs can out-range most Shotguns pretty easily. ARs and HMGs and... well, anything but a Shotgun can slaughter before they get close... you just need to see us coming (not always as easy as it sounds). If that isn't an option, remember that we're made of paper. You might die fast to our Shotguns, but if you can get lined up, we die fast too.
As for bunnyhoppers, there's a really neat trick that I exploit against bunnyhopping Assaults and my fellow Scouts. You can easily tell where a mid-air opponent is going. You have almost no control of your movement direction while you're in the air, so if your target jumps, watch where they're going, and aim there, then open fire just before they pass through your crosshairs. They WON'T dodge, because they CAN'T dodge while they're off the ground.
Bunnyhopping outside of point-blank/CQC range is a liability against a competent Heavy, and even in CQC, a good player can turn the tactic against you. |

Next part.
Quote:SMGs outrange shotguns on paper but the spread makes the range useless until you learn to use the sights effectively in the right situations. Some shotguns can still deal incredible damage at the edge of SMG optimal, but SMGs can fire beyond optimal and out-damage the Shotgun. Fixed that part too. Next part?
Quote:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qIJkDmzRK_A => at around 0:50 SMG against stationary target on objective. Despite missing with every second bullet with the SMG, it takes less than a second to break the shield at mid-range for the SMG. The SHIELD-TANKED assault suit moves into cover immediately upon realizing that someone is attacking him, and still loses the entire shield and starts taking armour damage. A few seconds later SMG engages the assault with no shields again at about 30 meter range, he uses sights to hit him at the edge of his range but deals almost no damage cause he's bad at precision aim and doesn't at any point manage to settle the sights on even a relatively slow-moving target and he misses out alot of damage due to it. SMG user gets hit from AR hipfire and has to run for his life, just like the Assault had earlier. A shotgun would usually require you to get closer than the SMG guy had been at any point to deal significant damage, but could one shot the guy at the objective. It would, however, struggle to even scratch him later when he had no shields and was well beyond the Shotgun's usual effective range, although that depends on the specific Shotgun being used and the amount of SP invested into Light Sharpshooter. And yep, fixed again. |

SMGs are very nasty with little investment. how does sharpshooter skill help when you fight at 15meters, which is inside optimal range of the SMG but the spread makes you miss and ADS makes turnspeed horrible slow that they can simply outrun your aim? also sharpshooter obviously does not help when you are still outside your optimal range, which is quite short anyway for the average engagement range due to map design. "Train SMG and SIdearm Sharpshooter" doesn't mean that he was telling you to only train in Sidearm Sharpshooter. It would help in the longer-range encounter - well, if the guy was actually staying on target it would, anyway. I can get a pic of him missing almost all his shots in the longer-range encounter if you want? You claimed you've watched the video already though, so you probably already know that he only actually centered the sights on his target long enough to land one hit - NOT because of the "terrible" (but not actually that bad when using sights) spread, but because he only quickly rolled his sights across the target instead of keeping his shots actually aimed where he wanted to shoot.
And the map design allows for someone who knows what they're doing in a Scout suit to control engagement range in large areas of most maps, in many cases even against alerted enemies who are smart enough to know what you're doing. |
