If you're going for the LAVs, you don't need to win the match.
It's been a while since I really played, but I remember trying to hoard my money a bit, so when the computer over-extends its good troops, you can simply call in a line of basic units to cut off the computer's expensive ones. That way you take territory and kill their expensive units without actually having to create a bigger one of your own.
I also remember using those special defense turrets that can't move, but protect against both soldiers and the first upgraded unit (some sort of mech I think). These were especially helpful to hold a choke-point if I was fighting on more than one front. You can throw one of those puppies down and the computer can't get past, then you focus all your guys elsewhere.
And if it isn't obvious, the faster you can connect your bases, the better. |

that's works for the first 14, but the last 5 you are outnumbered and outclassed by turn 1 by each other player |
