I just listened to the IGN Beyond podcast. Personally it got me really excited for the next few months. I understand this was a marketing manager speeching and this is his job to get me excited, but I feel like our waiting will be rewarded. As he said they have by no means pulled the rabbit out of the hat yet. He alluded to the fact that this will be a PS3 game and then eventually/possibly ported to PS4 at a way later date. Greg and the boys seemed to feel that CCP missed there window inregards to release window and that (as I took it) gamers are to dumb to get this complex game. Personally thats why I like it, the complexity.
If anyone listened I don't know if it was CCP joke that went over there heads, but when asked about release he said "soon" and they all seemed to take it as the normal person definition of soon. Or that is what he could have meant, since I didn't hear a tm in there. Definitly wanted your thoughts on that one if you listened.
To me he (CCP marketing manager) had a tone of "it's right around the corner for the good stuff" but that could have just been me. This podcast really got me excited though for this month and the next two (before and after Fanfest). I would definitl say give it a listen if you have the time or are feeling burnt out/think the game is stale. I feel the best is yet to come and bright days are coming very soon (not tm) for us mercs. DON'T PANIC

I TOLD YOU ALL SO is what i was thinking at the 56:49 mark. IGN stated their concerns for Dust and its exactly what i talked about a will back. Why would i play a PS3 game when i have a beautiful PS4 system right in front of me. Dust should just go stop and have a strong launch for PS4. |

CCP Pokethulu Kinda scared me back in the day, when he worked for Microsoft. Then again, I assume anything related to Microsoft is a blood sucker and evil by nature.
However, sense hearing him talk about Dust 514 and leading the marketing campaign. I have come conclusion that he is a pretty cool guy.

I just find it hard to believe that the majority of the PS3 base will immediatly move to PS4. Maybe in a 2-3 years majority of the base will move but thats most likely when this game will move. |

Very few can deny that Mr Reid is good at what he does. CCP made a good investment there.
And I have been a vocal thorn on these forums for a long time against what I feel is a lack of information, transparency and interaction on the part of CCP with the beta community.
I have always considered that the small role I play in pushing for the kind of game, service and entertainment I believe we can get from this great endeavor.
So, for what it's worth, Thank You, Mr Reid, for those words of encouragement and the message you were sending at the end to the beta players. I appreciate that you hear us and I felt like you were giving us the word to standby in a way I haven't heard in a long time
Hope springs eternal. I will try to hunker down and wait for Fanfest. I expect we will see Release right around then
Thanks. Standing by, still. |

Most PS3 owners will not just simply dump their PS3s just to buy a PS4. We are not like those Apple fanatics who would throw away a perfectly functional iPad into the trash as soon as a new iPad comes in. Most of us will hold onto our PS3s until they are broken mainly because those things are expensive and take a long time for the price to drop. That and the fact that most new consoles tend to have problems. Take the Xbox for example when users reported a problem with the constant red ring of death or the faulty power cords. It took several recalls and adjustments by Microsoft to get the problem fixed which resulted in the Xbox 360 (Black slender version). The Playstation consoles were not without their initial problems either.
Therefore, your argument that CCP should stop with the PS3 and start working on a PS4 version is practically pointless. |

So you're saying that you're going to waste money on sony still which gets part of the funds that ccp gets for all its transactions for a game that's likely to be on the ps4 as well?

I just listened to it, mostly just talk about EVE and some general Dust + EVE stuff, although he did sort of poke at the fact that something big may happen around EVE's anniversary and fanfest.
Also I did catch the "soon" remark, and if you listen shortly after, somebody (not sure if it was the CCP guy) said "TM". It was overshadowed by others talking, but I did hear it in the background by somebody.
Honestly, I don't think any of those Beyond guys have played the game very much at all. And their talk at the end about it being too 'complex' cause you have to restock items you lose to deaths (yeah, restocking items is real tough ) pretty much proved that.
Sure when you first start there is many things you have to learn, which is not uncommon for any game, but I feel CCP has taken amazing strides to make the process of upgrading skills and applying them to dropsuits much more streamlined and easy to figure out.
Any person who calls themselves a gamer should be able to wrap their head around the general basics of the game in a few days to a week. Then once you do that, you are constantly learning about neat little tips and tricks which makes the game much more deep. I am still learning things to this day, and I've been playing for about 6 months now. |

The feeling I get from CCP Pokethulu is that while he isn't as hardcore at playing EVE and DUST as most of us longtime players, he is very into the meta-game side. Which is really what he needs to be a good marketing guy.
Also, he did mention next quarter for the release, so we're likely to see an early April build release with a couple weeks of bugfixes and such leading up to FanFest at the end of April. |

Baal Roo wrote:At the current rate of updates and patches you should expect to see about 10% of the things talked about as "soon" within the next 5-7 years. This is understandable, but it's because of the iceberg effect. Most of the code we never see directly - it's below the waterline - backend code, netcode, mechanics, systems interactions, server interactions etc. We know a lot of the content assets are written, that systems are in place but not turned on atm. I think that once it starts, the rate at which content is added to DUST/EVE will be fairly furious.
If CCP is doing things right, i'd expect the beginning to go slow - building the foundations right. Cristopher Wren used to load his building sites with stone for 7 years prior to construction to guarantee the stability of the foundations, so we shouldn't complain - DUST+EVE is a modern cathedral project undertaken by a small private company.
That slow going while all the backend stuff and core gameplay is made right is what we're agonizing through right now.
But it sounds like, according to CCP, that part is essentially done(for now), and the real content of DUST is coming.
Here's to keeping hope alive.

the complexity of dust is a filter, the requirement is having half a brain to play dust or eve successfully. it filters out a lot of cryhards and kids, the kids who are smart enough to read and do basic math, a requirement here, end up getting along with the adults, the dumb kids who would just be annoying anyway get filtered out by the complexity, which we all know is really not that complicated if you can read descriptions and do basic math, a trait that is sometimes rare in the online gaming world. |

So yea, ill probably wait a year before i get a ps4 i'm sure sony will pull it's old cliche` trick by only releasing a limited number of consoles. this is a grotesque marketing strategy- make everyone fight over limited supply of consoles at the stores for a year, make the consoles super rare on the shelves and then you find them on ebay for tripple the price. it's all a joke to them like this they love to pull this crap for 1 year on the consumers before stocking the shelves with the new console, they will understock the shelves and laugh their way to the bank at the gun and knife fights that break out accross the country ppl fighting over the new console being released that will be very hard to find for 1 year. |
