drop ship or orbitally seeded AV mine fields.
these exist in the real world so why can we see them in dust?
they wouldnt have to be insta-kill damage Vs anything larger than a LAV unless you plowed right through the entire field. they could be easily countered by using explosive or other splash dmg weapons to clear a path, once discovered.

Legit, it sounds as if you're asking for a set of floating prox mines specifically for aerial vehicles ... and I don't think I need to remind you that Dropships are currently underused and underpowered as hell. I honestly don't think we pilots need another thing to worry about when flying our birds. It's bad enough we have to deal with swarms, forge guns, and turret installations ON TOP of the fact our impact damage is off the charts. A small bump can cause our ship to explode! This also ties in with how the damn things fly too. It's a somewhat awkward hunk of metal to be flying around and it takes a lot of practice in order to not only fly these birds properly, but also effectively.
So all in all ... although your idea is sound in theory, it might just cause more problems all around.
It would be ground based but aerialy (spelling?) delivered field. Maybe something 50'x50' in size with some scatter.
Delivering it from a dropship would give them a little more utility and provide a chance to shoot down the delivery method. |

- drop from drop ship. - scatter would be determined by air speed, direction of travel , altitude and, attitude of the delivery vehichle. (think along the lines of how a body travels when leaving a moving dropship.) dropping from a higher altitude would result in a larger field but with a decreased chance of a vehicle making contact with one. -limits could be set by only allowing 2 or 3 rounds per module fitted to the drop ship and not replenishable. -the mines would only be triggered by vehicles, so covering an opponent's spawn area wouldnt do much good since infantry could quickly clear them, once discovered, with gun fire, grenades or other splash damage weapons. |
