What do you feel the Command Structure of Dust should be? Do you think it should stay as simple as possible, with just Squad Leaders, and a Field Commander? Do you think it should expand to include District and Planetary Commanders?
Also what Orders do you think the various Commanders should be able to give, and what role do you see them playing in the larger Dust experince of FW and Plantary Conquest? |

Damn fine point, sir. Any command structure is absolutely useless without the ability to communicate within it. |

How about this:
Squad Leader: In command of 1-5 Squad Members
Team Commander: In command of 4 Squads
Field Commander (MCC): In command of 1-4 Teams
District Commander: In command of 4-6 MCC's
Region Commander: In command of 3-5 Districts
Planetary Commander: In command of 3-5 Regions
I'd have the Team Commander on the ground with his squads, but not in a squad himself. Add all of this up and you could get up to 30,000 Mercs fighting on a single planet. I think. Now, what kind of orders should each commander be able to give? Calling in installations and various kinds AoE strikes are fine, but can/should they interact with rest of the forces in play like Squad Leaders do? |

Planetary commander Region/district commander Field commander(MCC based) Squad leaders(I can see this structure being very flexible with squads jumping through multiple commands as needed)
but squads are going to be the most important unit in battles, of any size. Good squad leaders will be the single most important thing in any command structure
I agree that Squads, and Squad Leadrers, will be the most important thing on the field. The question is, since we will be able to have mutilple battles going on per District, and multiple Districts per planet, should the command structure extend to encompass these fights as well? Yes, Corps might only have a few hundred Mercs in them, but we also (so I hear) will have the ability to form Allinaces. Those Aliiances will make it possible to bring more Mercs, and equipment, to bear when taking over Districs and planets by allowing Corps to pool their resources. So if you have multiple fights going on inside a District, each with their own MCC, who's coordinating the those fights? Who chooses the area in the District to attack? If you have an Alliane, and are attacking multiple Districts at once, who chooses which Disctict to attack next, and so on? Should the people in charge of coordinating these attacks, with District and Planetary Conquest in mind, have the ability to affect the fights happening on the ground? And if so, in what ways?
I agree that Corps should be able to do their own thing, but as it stands, all Corps operate in an identical fashion when it comes to combat. Every Corp has squads, and Squad Leaders, and every Corp will have a Commander playing an RTS game (effectively) who will be inside the MCC. This true throughout all Corps, so the question remains: How far should the Command Structure of Dust go? And what purpose will each Command serve when it comes to actually affecting the flow of battle on the ground? |

I usually don't do this, but I'm giving this one a bump without really adding anything of worth to the thread. Mainly because I feel that when CCP finally releases the Commander Suits, and we have more in the way of a Command Structure, this will become an important topic. So I just want to keep it in the public eye; keep people thinking about what they would like/want from certain Leadership Roles. |
