Others who have been using boosters 100% of the time, getting every single cap, and getting a lot of post-cap rewards, are likely between 6-7 million.

So your not far behind if you have never used a booster of any kind. If you have used a booster then you are way way way behind as there are people already in the 6 millions.

I generally don't play too much into the soft cap though. Most of my sp is in weapons and dropsuit optimisation skills :)
