I would like to request the existence of Multiple-Merc Equipment Items. These would be items that would give you 1/Xth of a piece of deployable equipment as well as an arc welder or wrench.
Czech Hedgehog (3 pieces) Direct-fire Cannon (2 pieces) HMG Emplacement (2 pieces + HMG donated by a friendly heavy) Indirect-fire Mortar (2 pieces)
Above are listed some examples of ideas for multiple-merc equipment items. I envision them working like typical equipment having a max carried and a max active attribute. Any merc with an Equipment slot could equip these pieces which would only cost the slot with no PG/CPU fitting requirements beyond the assigned CPU/PG cost associated with the arc welder/wrench.
If you equipped a czech hedgehog for example, you'd get 1 piece of the czech hedgehog and the arc welder/wrench. For discussions sake, we'll say that czech hedgehogs have a max carried of 1 and a max active of 3, so yes you could feasibly construct one on your own by camping a supply depot though it would be much quicker to go with two other squadmates each deploy their czech hedgehog piece and then assemble them. Assembling is where the tool comes into play, in my mind it would take as long as a typical (unbuffed) hack. Once assembled, it is there to stay unless disassembled by another engineer (enemy or friendly) or blown up.
Pieces would be incompatible with one another (no using an indirect-fire mortar piece to finish a direct-fire cannon) and any combat emplacements that were unmanned would show as yellow or neutral. |

This is too complex for Dust.
Something like this could be implemented using the Squad Leader, and the off map call in system that already exists.
Alternatively, I believe the Commander role will include the ability to drop items on the map, so this role may encompass the sort of thing you're looking for.
