I just ran the math, and assuming my math is correct (which isn't a high probability, but still) there is no benefit to ever use the breach variation of the SMG, and the Assault variations are far and away better. Why wouldn't they be more balanced?
Here's the math:
Six Kin (normal): Damage: 23.1 HP ROF: 1000.0 RPM Accuracy: 51.8 Clip Size: 80 Max Ammo: 480
=16.667 Rounds per second * 51.8% accuracy = 8.6334 Bullets hit per second * 23.1 HP per hit
= 199.43 damage per second
Ishukone (Assault): Damage: 23.1 HP ROF: 1052.6 RPM Accuracy: 51.7 Clip Size: 80 Max Ammo: 480
=17.54334 Rounds per second * 51.7% accuracy = 9.06990334 Bullets hit per second * 23.1 HP per hit
= 209.514767 damage per second
Boundless (Breach):
Damage: 31.2 HP ROF: 535.7 RPM Accuracy: 53.7 Clip Size: 72 Max Ammo: 480
=8.928334 Rounds per second * 53.1% accuracy = 4.740945 Bullets hit per second * 31.2 HP per hit
= 147.917484 damage per second
Am I seeing something wrong? |

I always like to think that low RoF weapons are better at mid to long range. So maybe the Breach has more range, but since it's a SMG, it's just better to use them at CQC and have high RoF, so Assault wins. |

Actually quite the opposite, the Breach Variants have less range than the counterparts. They're CQC weapons. |

That feels so strange to me. Usually high RoF weapons have high bullet spread and kick. The low RoF ones have very high damage, more range and are more stable for long range accuracy. I mean at CQC you'll want to out DPS your enemy before he kills you. |

I think the breach's main advantage is that it doesn't have massive bullet spread so you can hold down the trigger with it, other SMG's quickly lose accuracy while the Breach doesn't.
You can't really tell from Accuracy stats but the difference is quite noticeable in practice. |

I don't believe the Breach is after DPS, after all it has slow RoF. No I believe the breach is after total damage:
Here's Math Standard: 23.1x80x(0.518)=957.264 Damage per clip
Assault: 23.1x80x(0.517)=955.416 Damage per clip
Breach: 31.2x72x(0.537)=1206.3168 Damage per clip
When you come across a tanked person, it's not going to be about DPS it's going to be about the total damage. That's why breach variants are effective against heavies, as they do overall more damage.
