EvE has what 500,000 unique users (not counting all the alt accounts) its core group already has the entire game monopolized so making new players having to merely exist in the shadow of the mega-corps that dominate low/null sec. Where as other games that have much higher population totals allow new players to compete at all levels of play and eventually allowing those who just start after weeks of dedicated play to attain end game content. They appeal to a larger market and have the player base to prove it.
EvE/Dust went the opposite approach and that is why you see such dismissive attitudes from those who have played for years because short of joining a mega-corp your enjoyment of EvE is very limited to High Sec space which can get dull quickly. If they really want to get more interest in Dust/EvE they need to address those concerns.
Other games do allow newer plays more abilities per say, however none of them have "real" rpg elements. Part of an rpg experience is having a designed imbalance. People who have been playing will most likely whip on the new guys, that is just part of the game. Your not gana have a lv1 in wow whoop a lv50; just isnt gana happen
However wait 2 months then those new guys will have the gear we do now. The only difference is we will have specce into other areas now; but our core skills will more or less be the same. we will just be able to adapt to a changing battlefield better then they would |

In my experience, you pick up a controller and start playing a game with the same skill as when you are playing ten years later. Sure, you can learn tactics, but those don't improve your ability to manipulate joysticks on a gamepad, or push a mouse over a surface.
Just thought I'd throw that in.
Id have to disagree here. When i started dust back in may, i was horrible. However, since i played more, played with & against better people, i know for a fact ive gotten better.
Same thing in mag. I was horrible, joined a scrubby corp, left, joined another scrub corp, got better left. Joined keq, got bit better, left ; joined rnd and i got even better. Playing with better people does help ones own abilities
But that my opinion |
