Biggest waste of SP ever, can't hit for **** because of too long a charge up time and the round takes a fair while to travel, more than enough time to drive forward some or to side step, when it hits it's a great weapon but geez I shot a heavy at point blank and by the time the bullet left he moved to the right and nullified the round, even when the reticle is red you'll prob still miss since it's hit a wall or something apperntly.
Tell me please why people should bother taking Forge Guns? Because they seem pretty useless at all jobs on the battlefield |

Its primary function is Anti Vehicle. Yes you can kill infantry with it, you just have to be accurate.
If you find the charge time too much use the Assault version. It doesn't hold charge so you'll have to be accurate. |

Forge guns are incredible. They're great Anti-AV for Heavy dropsuit users, and if you can get to a position of height, you can snipe infantry like a pro. |

I use forge fairly often, the assault variant, you just have to lead infantry a little bit. Elevation helps a lot too, aim at their feet not their torso. |

Ive never had a problem with mine. Great for killing carboard militia LAVS, great for driving off and sometimes destroying a tank (especially if theres a group of heavies). And 1 in 3 shots kill and infantry on the ground. 1 in 2 elevated.
Not bad.
Don;t foget to pack a breach SMG (cus it has better range) incase you get some gek-noob trying to punk ya. |

For example: I used Forge Guns for an hour and I keep getting killed, help!
Guess what? You would get help. And advice as well as not being labeled a Troll or such a New Berry that you QQ in General Discussions about something that you obviously have no idea how to use and aren't any good at.
My first thirty rounds aimed at Mercs missed. I died, not thirty time but way too much. I switched to popping Vehicles and Installations. Now when I pop a Merc others comment on how I make it look easy. I think to myself, "If it was easy I wouldn't die doing this".
The best moment for me was getting to Assault Forge Guns. Fun, fast and deadly. Sometimes you will still die. Or have to reload and die. But when it works it is totally fun. |

assaults can't hold charge, but shoot faster, I wouldn't use them, use normal variants, you can walk around with the charge, think of it is a bow and arrow, will pretty much kill anything it hits, but you gotta draw it back (charge it) and you gotta hit, forge guns have a very small blast radius, and do very good damage to vehicles. |

Its called lead time. But I do think it is one of the few weapons that actually require aiming skills to use.
I would love to see more weapons that function in this way.
Maybe you should try swarm instead?
Edit: sorry reading that back it sounded a bit trolly, not my intention. |

I love my Forge Gun, I only use the assault variant at the moment and only occasionally pull out the breach forge when fighting heavy tanks.
It is definitely not a close quarter combat weapon, to slow to charge and you might manage to hit the first target but will be dead before next charge is ready if facing multiple opponents.
I find that it works best as support for suppression and I do get fairly many kills on shots from long distances. It is like poking to an ant farm firing into one of the red bases and see all running around to avoid the lethal explosions. It feels good taking out LAVs and dropships at great distance. It does take some skill to get used to the aiming, I had great difficulty in the beginning to hit anything but now it is getting easier as long as it is not too close.
Major drawback is the limited ammunition, I have many times run out of ammo and no logistics on the team are dropping amo hives. My fit costs 87k ISK and only use my sidearm as last minute option, it is not funny waddling around only holding a scrambler gun.
As a forge gunner stay close to your team mates and stay away from the front, lay suppression shots when needed or shot incoming LAVs and be ready to run away when your team is overrun. The heavy can take some shots but is usually too expensive to try and go face to face with the AR specialists or the quick scouts only holding a scrambler gun.
If you really want to excel with the forge gun, then stick to it and ignore kill death ratios until you have mastered the aiming. |

Forge is one of my favourite fits, possibly the top one when it all comes together.
BUT...
Like everyone is saying: Support is essential, going solo with a FG will likely lead to many deaths, a lot of lost Isk and a severe feeling of disappointment.
Sniping infantry with the Forge is a way better feeling than SR, and at extreme range with little to no elevation trying to hit a sprinting scout moving perpendicular to your LOS is insanely hard, but WOW!
