I just don't see how anyone could be a dropship pilot right now. The ships are extremely expensive combined with very little payout because you earn virtually no sp. Of all the games I played today on my DS the highest sp I earned was 555 and thats with my gunners get 22 kills. So far while flying I earn about 130k isk a match and loose a dropship once every three matches (each dropship costs 600k isk).

I really enjoy flying my dropship... its a great break from the AR, but doing so has made me realized its something that is impossible to spec fully into in its current state.

When CCP swung the nerf hammer at the DS they swung really really hard. if you want a break from the AR i would suggest a tank alt or LR for ***** and giggles they are fun!

Well it's possible you hit your cap.

A good way to increase SP/WP is to place a defend order on the dropship and have the squad leader flying. Also get rid of turrets beforehand. =Major WP

 no... its not that.

And I already have a tank... got boaring all you do is mow people over with stupid amounts of armor and resistances. I started flying a dropship today and just fell in love with it.... but sadly the isk sink to reward is a little sad.

If my squad is telling me "Wow, you flew nicely that game" or "You kept the dropship pretty steady, nice work" or "Thanks for the transport" or even a simple "Nice work, Vyzion", that's worth more than any amount of WP CCP could throw onto dropships.

It's nice but compliments don't pay the bills.

What's the isk to "Good Work" ratio? How many "way to fly steady"s do I need to buy the Small Blaster Proficiency book? If I get five of them does it train the skill for me?

Yes, dropships have been forgotten. It's the only item I know of in game that nets 0 points for doing what it's supposed to be doing. Short term to medium term, skilling into dropship specific skills is a huge disadvantage for you. If you still feel you want to fly for the heck of it, buy the bare minimum books and (IMO) stick to the the Myron unless you're in a good clan. Spend your SP on passive skills that work for vehicles and dropsuits and find a day job (probably logi since your suit will be weaker) to pay the bills.

"way to fly steady" is a prereq for the swarm missile insta-death skill.

You need a "way to draw the enemy fire" and "your ship burns good" to train the small blaster proficiency. Luckily you should get both in just a few flights.

Well you could ask CCP for more wp for supporting your squad .. or you could stop acting like a little *****. I'm tired of going number one with my AR all the time. Because I'm so good with it. I've almost literally been stacking isk. So losing a dropship really doesnt phase me. Removing myself from the equation is a nice release and something fun to do. Also I've started dropship corp battles. Their fun. let me know if your dropship is up to the challenge

edit: No actually I don't think they were ever really kept in mind to begin with.
Perhaps hyperbole but it's definitely not been a propriety to set pilots straight as evident in the lack of WP they've ever been able to get to pay for the aircraft.

ATM flying has to be a hobby, supported by a more lucrative career.
