similar in nature to the orbitals strikes could we use war points to ask an eve pilot to do a long range scan of sorts of the battle field to relay us positional info?
would be useful to scout out deployment zones for campers, find snipers, and more or less help out on combat awareness.
of course the points required would be much lower, something like 500, but it would be useful. |

Honestly.... this may be the best idea on this forum in weeks. Maybe 500 WP for a long scan, 50-70 seconds. |

What's wrong with the scanner LAVs? 80m scan radius = 20k square meters of scanned area. And it doesn't require LOS like dropsuits do. The downside of active scanners is that they won't pick up assaults/scouts/logistics who at least have a few levels in dropsuit command and aren't being aggressive/sprinting. |

I personally don't agree. I can get my methana easily into the 4000 EHP range, still fast, with a scanner, then if you think about how you can cover 100m in no time you can basically scan the whole map in less than a minute.
Yeah I agree that they don't pick up everything, but if they did, then sensor dampeners would be pointless. I'm hoping that scan precision can be modified for LAVs, but it is possible to make a survivable patrol vehicle. I'm guessing once ECM and jamming comes into the game we will see more uses for sensors and counter sensor ops. |

I think that you should also have the opposite then. There should be a WP function that scrambles scanners for a set period (say 30 or 45 seconds). Could be something like an EMP strike that disables scans. This would be for something like an area breach. |

I think you over-estimate how often the Sensor Dampener is used, to be honest. A frontline fighter won't waste their time with it.
The Active Scanner has a precision of what, 45? That's the baseline scout-suit. A Scout-suit with Dropsuit Command 1 or Scan Dampening 1 already beats it. An Assault Suit with any combination of the two equaling level 5 (dropsuit command 3 and scan dampening 2, for instance) beats it.
Even then the handheld Active Scanner didn't work at all and there's no way for us to readily be sure that the Active Scanner on the vehicles is working. I say this because I used one on a Dropship and hovered in the center of a city sprawl with it on and a Heavy somehow snuck up on my team.
Explain that, please - as I don't think it's highly probable he had Scan Dampening 5 and a Prototype Scan Dampener. |

Love the original idea, but I would suggest making it a snapshot and not long-duration monitoring. This works better from a lore perspective (otherwise why aren't you getting a constant feed from space?) and still allows you to determine where the enemy is for tactical purposes.

Complete blackout for both teams within a specific region of the map. The team that calls it would have the advantage because presumably they've coordinated to expect the blackout. This could be countered with one of the above WP scans, but again you'd only be getting a snapshot, and you'd have to execute it after you've already identified that a blackout has started, which leaves you at a disadvantage of several seconds and still doesn't stay updated with the exact location of every enemy in that area.
(More generally, I don't think there are enough tactical-use features in the game that impact both sides. Sure, some of that comes with friendly fire, like orbital strikes killing teammates as well as enemies. But deliberately putting yourself at a disadvantage because you're putting the enemy at a greater disadvantage is risky and exciting.) |

I like the original scan idea but think the scan should only last 20 to 30 seconds at most. it Should have a huge area of effect but not reveal the whole map.
The ECM could counter the scan, disable the overhead map so orbitals cant be called in, and possibly disrupt electronics on the surface; such as shields (completely depleted and must recharge), null canons (require a rehack as it gets reset and goes back to neutral), and deployable equipment like nano hives and droplinks would get destroyed. The area of effect would be smaller than the scan but larger than an orbital strike.
We could also include strikes against the MCC or warbarge that would prevent spawning for a short period of time, disrupt communications so that orbitals and RDVs cant be called in and so forth.
I think these would add a lot more depth to the tactical end of the fights. |

This is a grand idea but I think it should be a war barge thing and maybe take 1000 WP instead cause it's easy to get 500 WP especially when in a squad so you could have almost constant scanner sweeps the entire game and I agree with red dot that it should last about 30 seconds but there should also be a counter for this though so you could chose between jamming their radars for maybe 15 seconds (or more) or the scanner sweep. |

1000 is a little steep for a temporary scan...

I basically agree with Goric. Snapshot for the area scan (or short scan of 10 seconds since a snapshot showing up on minimap would mess with the active minimap) and 30 second small area blackout for the ECM that effects everyone's radar.
I didn't HATE the idea of a true EMP resetting NULL cannons and all that but it should be a different ability at a higher cost, imo.
FFS can we get a damn WP tracker for the squad somewhere in the scoreboard screen or something. Who sits there and counts up the WP their squad has accrued in the heat of battle? "Hang on guys, I gotta go add up our WP." Yea...that's INTENSE immersion. |

Yeah I started a thread on that topic awhile back and didn't get a whole lot of interest in it, but I sure like it. There is a handheld scanner that was in the closed beta a couple builds back but it didn't work right so they removed it until it could be improved on.
