So, I'm participating in the event today, and checked out their event page here. scroll down to comments and read some of them after i did, i had a negative epiphany. Am I a part of the minority? Has my previous experience with CCP via EVE skewed my perception? after over a month of open beta, we've yet to see anything major come from the offices (save the functionality hotfixes, half of which didn't actually work correctly). Moreso, the company seems to have adopted the stance of "we're going to pretend nobody's speaking, oh look! a PR event! everyone jump aboard/buy our new AUR items!" in their community interaction. Furthermore, their increasing antisocial stance towards the community doesn't affect all the new players as much as it does the veterans, who are becoming more aggravated as they feel they've been abandoned by the dev teams whom they spent the last nine months.
(note:=:>> I'm talking forums, not the superhardcore gamer-gamers who personally talk to the devs on a regular basis because they're "cool like that" and want to be "in the loop" [because its kinda weird and yes i'm talking to you]. Double standards aside, thanks guys for being loyal and caring about the game, but the majority of the new community, including the late closed beta players [1-3 months cb time], do not have the patience these days. They want an enjoyable gaming experience, full of discovery, few glitches, and preferably as little BS as possible. Silence from the devs in the forums fails all three as it offers no explanations to the issues that only a dev or seasoned gamer/betanaut could easily understand.
Now, i still believe in Dust, I know what it could become. I can see their seeding ideas in the map, their upcoming district system. i know that the number of maps will expand to the point where you could not even see one for days on end. i dream about the possibilities of planetary production and building my own warbarge. But that is not enough.
The current number of new players giving negative feedback alongside the number of frustrated and bored veterans is reaching critical mass. The only defense these games are getting anymore are its a beta, a nine month phrase that doesn't hold up anymore. Every time there is a public mention of the game, comment streams like the one on IGN seriously detract and discourage new players from joining.
Frankly, it's disheartening to read them myself.
so whats going to happen if CCP decides another month is necessary before the next build? To be frankly honest, i don't think the community will survive that long, it seems all those new people are dropping out faster each day, that the vets are leaving for greener pastures. More than half of those people will not return even with new content.
I will continue to play, but still the question lingers. . .
What are you doing up there, oh CCP overlords? a month with no info, releases, anything? stop winking at us, saying SOON (tm), we die a little every Tuesday you don't bring anything. Can you give us direction? something to fight for? Something to fight for and actually feel that the event involved us actively instead of saying oh this side won, good game? Can you give us incentives to play?
To the Players; what can WE do? |

Sobriety Denied wrote:the super superhardcore cool gamers the OP mentioned perhaps just have the social skills to chat with the devs? do you think anyone wants to always rather chat with ppl who seem pissed off, insulting, and entitled?
ahem, this is not the main focus of the post, nor is it relevant, please only respond to the main issue. and for the record social skills have nothing to do with it, they want the game to succeed as much as the devs, but they are a very small number, and are outnumbered in their efforts to educate the hordes |

gbghg wrote: we're you not on the forums yesterday? CCp FoxFour trolled about every single thread on the front page of GD, the reason their not active is because they're busy doing their jobs which is developing the game.
that doesn't solve the issue, and frankly is a bandaid on a broken leg. i was there, and foxfour was very helpful, but why did it take this long? he was dispatched to GD because it was screaming after 2-3 weeks of darkness, not because they felt they wanted to talk with us.
and trust me, i know that they're developing the game except; their GM's are not developers, they are admins, half of which their job is to tell us its ok (or SOON or HTFU). therefore your argument is invalid.
please follow the subject idea of the OP, about the loss of players and the amount of negative feedback the game is getting publicly. |

hahaha, i asked about planetary seeding & production. . . a good question, but apparently too difficult to answer |

most likely, the should have opened with the next build |

of course, but they could have tried working with us instead of SOON(tm) ing us to death |
