I think I-¦ve had it with Dust, at least for now. I-¦m so sick and tired of the broken spawning, imba matchmaking, sluggish menus, non-consistent radar system, returded controls, hardly a clue from anything about where you are being shot from if it's not in your sight, and overall a very unintuitive experience. There-¦s no manual or guide, not even on the internet. You get to know the basics about skill points, suits and marketplace in the game, but that-¦s it. Many many things are left out. There-¦s nothing on the webpage. And on the internet forum everything is so scattered that it takes ages to find, if it even is there. And how are you supposed to find info about stuff you don-¦t know the term for?
But most of all YOU CAN-¦T F*CKING AIM RIGHT!
Firstly, the difference between the smallest and largest movement is too small. And there is no acceleration either. Secondly, stick reaction area is way too small! The inner third part from the center of the stick virtually does nothing. The outer third area of the stick does nothing too! So there is just one third of the sticks movement area/circle which has a real effect on the aim! And even there it is quite rough! So you can-¦t get any smoothness at all! You just jerk the stick and hope you get it right. It actual got harder to aim after upgrading the weapon skills, since the bullets got more focused.
holiii shiit..! -ty that is!
Just because people can play with it doesn-¦t mean it-¦s good.
I haven-¦t had problems of this magnitude with any other console FPS. And I-¦ve been through a bunch. Timesplitters 2 with it-¦s old fashioned aiming style, Halo 1-3 (man, those were the days), some Call of Duties, Red Faction, Battlefield 1943, Chronicles of Riddick, both Escape from Butcher bay and Dark Athena is what i can recall right now.
Halo was awesome control wise. It got even better for each installment. That game series was so smooth and accurate. And that was even with the Xbox controller, which is said to have lower precision/resolution in the analog sticks than Dual shock. I cannot recall that even Chronicles of Riddick were that inaccurate.
And what the hell is the orbital strike good for anyway, really? It-¦s just a crown for the pwning team, who long ago secured their victory, to mock the loosing side who bravely tries to keep the fight up despite the humiliation.
The whole tank thing consumes way too much effort. It wreaks havoc, stealing kills from the teammates and totally changes focus and balance in the game. Even if one manages obliterate a tank, you stand there with nothing to shoot common mercs with, so you just run around and hope you can sneak up to someone so you may get one kill with your SMG or pistol before you-¦re downed. The stakes are too high!
This is a major bash and whine thread, but don-¦t come and say I-¦m totally wrong. Sure, I could just leave it. But I feel frustrated, because this game has such a huge potential that I get mad to see it spoiled by these rough edges. The game does, or at least is planned to do so many awesome things that has never been done before!
And I don-¦t give a crap about all those elitistic snobs who seriously defends all these flaws to keep this nerdy verse away from anything that could be attractive to anyone but the man-adverse.
This could be awesome. The potential is beyond imagination. Even at this stage it could have a merit over the rest. Now it-¦s justGǪ deplorable. |

Sorry for the late reply. Now that a few days have passed since I posted this and read through it, I feel that I really stand by my post entirely, and not that it was just made in a moment of rage.
The spawning have been improved since. You mostly spawn among your team now, and rarely end up away from people. But I-¦ve never ended up in a bad place (killed on spawn).
I answer some directly, some things that several have pointed out will I give a general answer to.

I know it gets old hearing "its just a beta" but from some of the problems I read most of the issues you have can be fixed over time. Anyways not trying to be a **** or anything, but perhaps a break is best. That's what i do when im getting tired of DUST. Thanks for caring. And not being a **** :-)
I know about the supply depots. But they are not present in every game, and if they are, they tend to be far away.

And bugs seem to pile up at the worst possible time, when your doing worse and feel like throwing the controller across the room (not saying I do that ) I have thrown the controller in the couch several times.

Not KZ2 or FC2 terrible, but it's far from ideal. I use the strafe to get my aim on somebody more than I use the right stick, right stick is really only useful for getting the aim near an enemy, then I use left stick strafe to maneuver into position.
Any game in which the only way to get precise small-movement aiming is by using the strafe, is a game that needs the aiming mechanics worked on. I've been playing FPS games all my life and never had problems aiming until I played games like KZ2 and FC2, and while Dust is not nearly as bad as they were, it is still not very natural feeling and is counter-productive to what my brain wants my in-game character to aim at. When you said that, I realized I do the same. I thought I somehow had reverted to nub play style, but it-¦s of course a spontaneous reaction to not being able to aim accurately with the right stick.
I could use a mouse. But that doesn-¦t solve the problem. It actually makes it worse to some extent. It creates a huge imbalance between those who play with mouse and those who play with Dual shock 3. And casual players who are not aware of this problem looses interest in the game due to getting awfully owned by mouse players. A console is plugged in to a TV. Most have TVs in their living room, and in a living room you usually don-¦t have a desktop table. So playing with a mouse is not an option for most people.

Answers are within the quote in brackets, have a nice day. Sure, corp play heightens the game experience very much. And I am completely fine that this type of play is privileged. But is that the only way you should play it? Should you be punished for not playing in corp all the time? What if the corp buddies are not available? And even if I stick to them, and we play well together, the rest of the team most often is a bunch of hens gone loose. And is the corp the only viable source of information?
When you get shot by someone out of your sight, it doesn-¦t necessarily show up on the radar. I have died several times by being shot from the side or back, and the fella never showed up on radar, despite being just a few meters away. Often I can see one in front of me on radar, sometimes also visual, but that-¦s not the one who fires at me, which makes me confused and frustratingly twitches the stick to find him/her, but often in vain. The sound effects don-¦t help either. It-¦s loud nearby of course, but the soundscape is not so polished, so it is hard to tell from where and how far the shots come from. I get killed by someone nearby, but I never get a glimpse of the person, neither visual nor on radar.
I have checked that manual you linked to. It is outdated. One thinks they would update it for the open betaGǪ They even got things mixed up in the HUD description. So no help there.
I certainly do not agree on the orbital strikes turning the tide of the battle. I would say that in 19 out of 20 games, it just states the overwhelming lead the winning team has.
Oxskull Duncarino wrote:The stick dead zone issue is fixed by going into the move controller settings and reducing its dead zone strings there. I didn't really believe it when told first but it's the truth. It's one of the many things that should have been fixed/changed by now, but hey, that's life. I hope this helps you. Seeing as this is a fps, aiming has to feel natural. I tried what you said, being very skeptical. Having heard it before, it sounded like a game myth, like jumping over the pole in Super Mario bros. or something. But holy hell, it actually worked! Now I can play this game!
About tanks stealing kills I meant more like taking most kills, like in doing all the job, leaving little for the rest of the team to do. The tank dudes get like 23/1 KDR, the others 3/1. |
