What specific things about the game do you think contribute to this feeling and how could they realistically be changed or improved?
The first thing for me is the LAV. I never use it but boy does it suck. The controls... Who came up with the idea to put that all on one stick? And driving it feels awful. One should look to the warthog in Halo for the standard of how to make vehicles control naturally and navigate terrain more gracefully.
i agree but i dont care as i use the KB/M its perfect on there |

Awkward vehicle handling adds to this. And sound effects.
Weapons have less range than typical FPS's so the new player constantly puts himself in positions where normally he'd be ok but in Dust is as good as dead.
Different suits having different amounts of health makes it hard for new players to get a sense of consistency on what it takes to kill someone.
Just throwing out a few possible reasons. Honestly from what I hear most people who try the game and delete it only played one or two rounds before deleting it.
you are right, that said the last one is necessary to a good complex shooter.
my two pet peeves are the weapon switch and grenade throw both are highly unpredictable. I can't tell you the number of times that I swap weapons for the assured kill(AR<10rounds swap to smg) and a second lag on the weapons swap gets me killed in turn.
**** like that takes you out of the game, I dont mind slow actions but I hate unreliable action times.
on that note health update is noticeably deficient, I get kills after I stop shooting I take damage at weird time when I shouldn't. ive learned to compensate by breaking fights early and shooting faster but stuff like this makes the game feel second rate.
one in a while is fine but multiple time a match not cool. |

Karl Koekwaus wrote:for me it's basically the Map Layout combined with movement and effects. Everything just feels Cluncky ADS feels 'weird' and somewhat sluggish, turning is capped because of the suit balance, but that doesn't change the fact that it makes the game feel average instead of super smooth. 3rd person weapon effects are bland and the pacing feels just 'off' in general.
Not to mention Jumping, it's terrible. Even using Scout or Assault suits with a stamina booster. Want to get over an object reaching your knees? You're outta luck if you ran 10 meters before it. While you should been able to just step over it. Like the Concrete guard rail like parts in maps. They drive me nuts, why not just step over it instead of having to jump. It's so low your heads practically sticking out if you take cover behind them for crying out loud.
I still like the game though but that's not because it's a great shooter.
yea if you are gonna limit jumping make it so the char model can step up knee height things, and raise the jump heights all around.
small things like that make this game feel very unpolished. |

1. You can't just jump and be successful.
2. Progression takes time and some dedication
3. Skill system could be perceived as overwhelming to a newberry, same goes for fitting system.
4. Maps are bigger and typically slower.
etc etc
Now I have had friends put this game on and been walked through it by myself and after an hour or so I ask them "So what do you think?" They always say something like it seems good or WTF is going on lol.
Now I always say give this game a 2 weeks to a month and I bet you will like it.
Bottom line is? look past the non polished visuals, get used to all the elements and you will find yourself one deep awesome game.
this is very true and why I stick around but if I didn't know what this game was I would probably not give it much of a chance because of its lack of polish. and you are right this is not for the vast majority of console shooter fans, at least not until this sort of thing catches on. |

SGT MUZZA wrote:Yeah not being able to reload whilst sprinting took me a bit a getting used to after playing BF3 for so long.
it was annoying at first but as I've gotten used to it I really like it, its an easy way to interrupt reloads and adds even more tactics to the gun play. |
