I'm hitting the cap quite easily myself now too, especially with the 30-day booster. Kind of frustrating too since I'm 10k away from what I was looking at getting. Unfortunately, giving players an active method of accruing SP only makes it feel like a penalty at this point. I'm not keen on staying logged in a result.

If CCP's going to cap SP gains from active combat, they need to list how much SP is available before a player is capped. It's just underhanded otherwise. |

Active booster does not allow you to hit the cap faster, you still hit it in the same time-frame, except you get a lot more SP for the equivalent time spent.
Then it's even more important to make sure that players know when they'll be capped. When I wasn't past the line it was about 1k+ for the booster, now I'm lucky if I get 100SP out of it. |

Maken Tosch wrote:Dude, enough of this already. CCP already put the final decision to a public vote on the matter a few moons ago. The vast majority of the players, after being given all the information they need to make a decision, voted in favor of a weekly cap with a soft cap at 1000 SP. If you did not vote, then you're too late and therefore must live with what everyone else demanded.
Doesn't change the fact that it's still a problem in one form or another. Remember that while this is a PS3 game, a lot of the people playing in the test are EvE Players. Even then, I have to ask why wasn't I sent an e-mail when this was put to a "vote"?
The whole problem is the game gives the facade of having active SP being the method to earn SP, and people in turn buy boosters to augment that. However their booster is damaged as a result of being restricted be it after a fair amount of playing or not.
I seriously don't feel like I managed to get anywhere with my skills. If CCP wants to make the skill training similar to EvE they should have just kept it passive outright- but they can't do that because it's damaging to potential sales for active boosters.
There needs to be an element to disclose how much active SP someone can gain before they hit the cap, and frankly active boosters need to be retooled to offer bonuses when you're uncapped as it's just a waste while you are. (100SP in boosted SP per match? Riiight..)
Sadly this also damages the encouragement for players to participate. Remember, this is a free-to-play game. If people hit that cap, they won't log in, they won't play, they won't spend money, and in turn they'll just naturally gravitate to something that will reward them "adequately" for playing. I'm not saying that getting rid of the cap is the right way to go, just that there needs to be a different draw to get people interested in participating even when the cap is hit. 120, 250k in ISK when you've already got a fair amount isn't really that much of a reward, even if these matchmade missions are pretty much the equivalent to EvE's mission runs.
Free-to-Play games need a lot of people. Either a lot of people need to spend a little bit, or a few people need to spend a lot, but both sides need other people to play against. Adding a disincentive to play damages the want to come back and continue on. This isn't a subscription based game where people are actively paying $15 a month to get in the door (thus having the perception that they should play because they spent the money). |
