If I'm not mistaken, our isk payout after every match is somewhat tied to the cost of the opponents' gear that we kill in battle. ie: If you kill 10 opponents and their gear was all militia, your isk payout would be less than if you killed 10 opponents who were using prototype gear.
What if we applied this same mechanic with AUR gear?
Perhaps for every player you kill that uses AUR gear... you get 10% of that cost in AUR added to your "wallet" It would take a while to accumulate any substantial amount of AUR, but this would accomplish a couple of things.
1. It would allow "free players" (players who never put a penny into the game) to earn AUR and have access to that gear (or even SP Boosters). This would get them to shut up with their illogical "pay-to-win" argument.
You may be thinking: "why would CCP ever do anything like that? It would hurt their AUR sales, if people could earn some AUR w/o ever buying it."
2. This mechanic would allow CCP to make even more profit. It would potentially hurt some sales, because people who ordinarily might buy some AUR, could now earn it in game... HOWEVER, this group would be small. Most people either are willing to spend real $ to play, because they're looking for that convenience or are looking for a "free ride". The free ride people, wouldn't spend money either way, and many of the "payers" are still going to spend money because they don't want to grind to earn AUR, they'll just pay real $.
The MAIN way this will boost CCP's profits, is that it'll will actually allow them to start producing REAL "PAY-TO-WIN" gear. I'm talking about gear that better than anything you can get with isk. Weapons with more dmg/accuracy AND less CPU/PG cost, etc. Armor Plates that offer MORE HP than the complex ones AND offer less movement penalty. People who spend real $ would be all over this. They'd jump at the chance to have an advantage.
All the "free players" wouldn't have a real argument, because they TOO could earn that "pay-to-win" gear by grinding in-game and killing the players using that gear.
I understand the secondary player market would actually take care of a lot of this, but just wanted to bring the idea to CCP's attention and get other people's thoughts.
What do you guys think? |

1. No one said it is pay-to-win. (although there are a few items that are questionable) 2. If you re-read my post, you'll see that I mention the secondary market. I simply bring this up as a parallel to it. Perhaps an even simpler way to do it, without having to worry about trying to merge the Dust economy with the Eve economy.
I know that one of the major concerns by both players and CCP is the SMOOTH merger of the two economies. |
