When it comes to game critique I tend to think that most people complaining about a game are far too jaded to actually do so.
When youGÇÖve played any type of game for YEARS, be it FPS, MMO, etc, IGÇÖve come to expect in my old age that most players verbalize what is actually a personal emptiness in their lives theyGÇÖve been filling with excessive game play as GÇ£this game sucksGÇ¥.
The truth is thereGÇÖs only so many GÇ£featuresGÇ¥ you can put in something to make it fun. And too much of the same thing tends to make people not respect the effort that went into making something new from the ground up which is often built on one or two GÇ£new ideasGÇ¥. A new game may have that one new feature that made it sound GÇ£coolGÇ¥ but if it didnGÇÖt have the 40 other features invented or introduced before it, itGÇÖs often labeled a GÇ£sucky gameGÇ¥. That to me is being jaded.
Basically all a FPS has ever been is GÇ£grab a gun and shoot the other playerGÇ¥ everything else is bells a whistles. Counterstike still has a respectable player base, and still has a place for having fun if thatGÇÖs not all you do with your day. Would they criticize the 15th version of the board game Risk, when the Space themed version that has an extra map you can conquer of the moon comes out? If you play it every single day for weeks, months or years youGÇÖre damn right they do. But if you play once and a while that game is still a blast.
At one point in these complainers lives they had a penultimate experience with one particular game, yet over time they lost interest for one reason or another. Every day since that experience theyGÇÖve been chasing that high, been disappointed they canGÇÖt get that feeling back and take it out on an unfinished Beta that has expectations on it to be profitable within a certain timetable because its business not just pleasure for the financiers.
So IMO if you are QQGÇÖing about a FPS when youGÇÖve been playing various ones for years without end, the problem is probably you, not the game. Stop playing so much. Go outside once and awhile.
This is not to say that a game in BETA shouldnGÇÖt get criticism. ThereGÇÖs no way to get better without getting feedback from your client base, but IGÇÖd take it all with a grain of salt. If you really want a game to be better give CONSTRUCTIVE DETAILED things you think should be fixed, and then donGÇÖt place unreasonable expectations on a business to instantly gratify you by fixing them immediately. |

After being here a year and providing continuous CONSTRUCTIVE DETAILED FEEDBACK and seeing very little progress or new content I think we have the right to complain even if CCP calls this a beta. As I have said before CCP calls this a commercial release so they can take our money but will call it "beta" so they can ignore whats broke or wrong with the game. I barely play enough to hit my weekly sp cap so I get outside just fine
That's totally fair. I was generalizing not trying to pick anyone out. |
