Without reading the entire thread, I'll also add here that yes, I have lost a lot of interest in playing the game though still check up on here every so often for patch notes and more.
I know it's in beta, and even more, I know that connecting Dust 514 with Eve servers is a hard and delicate issue ....
But I'll say this. I've been in many Beta's before ... some as the short 1 or 2 months to test the servers ... and others as longer lasting Beta's where full development was still in effect.
And as of now, Dust 514 very much reminds me of the beging months of Playstation Home's beta (small history, the beta started, and after that, barely nothing was changed or added for over a year). Lots of work in the background that we mostly don't see, 1 or 2 new locations and a lot of re-arrangements of what is already currently available.
I will add that I fear that Dust is falling in the same pitfalls as Home was. Early design decisions about the engine now causing major issues in latter production of the game, but it's already to far along to scrap and start again
Or the other side of that thought, the goals of the game was too grand for the system in question and that there's no way to reach a well working version without reducing some aspects like level size, player counts, etc.
3rd, CCP may have simply released dust way to early, where what we are playing, is simply all they've developed up to now
I might be completely wrong, but if so, I can't see why we aren't seeing more content released to us on a general basis. Even if the Dust / Eve connectivity doesn't progress as quickly (god knows how delicate they need to be not to crash the servers), content itself should.
That's just my personal view on things ... Next patch could actually change a lot of things and add lots more content of maps, weapons and more ... but as it's going now, if this pace continues, I don't see myself playing Dust that much until it's official release, even maybe a year after.
Either way, just like everything else when it comes to game development. Us players can only wait and see. |
