As many of you have noticed/posted about, the dropships need work, lots of it. I think that a very good solution would be cloaking devices. Think about it, a dropship with a mobile CRU and a cloak would be a wondrous tactical advantage for any team. It would promote the dropship for being used as its intended, a dropship. As well as a mobile spawn point that can last more than a minute before being shot down.
my suggestion
Make the cloaking device non militia: it should require some skill level to use
The cloaking device should be pretty expensive in terms of CPU and PG: it should take some planning/a good fit to use
If a single stray round no matter what its from hits the ship, the cloak should be terminated and go into cool-down time. (either full cool-down time or relative to how much the cloak was used before being terminated)
Only one passive repair module should work while the cloak is active, this way while cloaked the ship can repair either armor or shield but not both. (The pilot would be able to choose which one works in the fit)
Make it so that the pilot has to be smart when using it this includes 4 major points
1. When the cloak is active no other active modules (including weapons) can be used as it takes massive power/CPU/whatnot. This would require either manual or automatic shutoffs, I think manual would be best because it forces the pilot to know what their doing. So, for instance, if their are weapons firing or a hardener active and the pilot turns on the cloaking device the ship would temporarily lose power, or stall, or whatever. This forces the pilot to be aware of what his ship is doing, and prevents the cloak from being over powered.
2. People can spawn in a mobile CRU when the cloak is active but they cant jump out. There are two ways to do this: a. When someone jumps out it just disables the cloak - this could end up screwing the pilot over if its just some random blueberry
b. People just can't jump out while the cloak is active, so the pilot will have to disable the cloak so people can jump out, or people will have to wait until the cloak is turned off. (I think this is the better way to do it)
3. The cloak would have a limited operating time (increased with skills and better cloaking devices of course) This forces the pilot to know when to turn it on. Turn it on too late and the ship will be destroyed. But if you turn it on too early and it will stop and expose the ship too soon.
4. The cloak would have a pretty hefty cool-down time (decreased with skills and better cloaking devices like above) This would require similar pilot awareness such as #3
I think that this would allow the dropship to be used as intended much more often, also it would allow the ship to stay in the air much longer. Also maybe the cloak shouldn't completely conceal the ship, but make it really hard to spot. You'd have to actually be looking for it to spot it. |

It's a nice idea and i'm for anything that improves dropships but i really would like to see countermeasures to swarm before anything else. |

Maybe in the general discussions bring up the fact that they haven't yet but I don't see much reason in suggesting the idea again. Maybe just petition. |

It says their will be cloaking, and thats about it. I gave some pretty good ideas (I think) about how they could/should implement it. Yes CCP probably already has a pretty good idea how their going to do things (Heck on the main build that their working on [not the beta] they've probably already got it working for all we know) however, maybe one of the devs will see this thread and say "wow thats a really great idea, why didn't we think of that". I mean you never know, this thread could be the reason they implement them one way over another. |
