I see them mentioned a lot, but I don't quite understand what they are, how they're different, or where they come from? Thus far I've gathered they you generally get them from salvage, but can you also get them from the market?
How do I distinguish an officer weapon from a regular weapon?
Is there just officer weapons or are there also officer vehicles, equipments, and modules? |

No officer vehicles or modules. Yes, you can only get officer gear from salvage. They are much better than prototype gear, and a higher meta level. You'll start seeing some names and eventually just get them down (like Thale, Gastun's, etc, etc).
They have a rare chance to be found as salvage, so you'll probably have ten thousand officer tier items that you'll never use and cannot get rid of right now. |

How much better is much better? I've seen people on these forums getting in multi page debates over whether or not the %5 damage increase from Militia Assault to GEK is over powered, so I have zero context lol |

Yea, you shouldn't give too much weight to people crying about "OP" weapons on forums. CCP did at first, but I believe they are testing the weapons themselves now and making tweaks instead of huge nerfs. I like the way they have been tweaking weapons recently. It's awesome ^.^
Whenever people die to something, they think it's OP and cry on forums. Many people use GEKs, so many people are dieing to GEks. That's why you see some many people who think GEKs are OP.
;)
(I don't use a GEK btw, only the Exile and regular basic AR in case you're wondering.) |

From whom do the officer weapons get their names? Is it based from characters in the lore? |

1. Officer Weapons = God-Mode Weapons that are even more powerful than the AUR weapons.
2. They are super rare and only emerge as salvage.
3. You will never see them sold on the primary NPC market. However, in the future you will see them sold on the secondary player-run market where those who found them in their salvage will sell them to you for extremely large amounts of ISK which practically makes you want to be careful with them. |

Compared to a Boundless HMG, the Gastuns HMG has all the same stats, except for Damage output, which jumps from 17.6 to 19.2, which is the same damage difference between a Boundless and the standard HMG.
When the player market opens up, the demand for officer weapons will be huge, at all times, as all the corps doing anything even remotely competitive will have to have them. |
