dps is irrelevant because of shield regen, damage per clip is a much better indicator. |

Yeh but assault suits get extra slots, cost less and have more pg and CPU anyway. It's been balanced that way for a reason. The only reason why advanced and proto use more pg/CPU is to stop you/make it very hard to fit them on standard suits. Absolutely no one in the dev team will have looked at the fitting requirements of a heavy gun vs a light gun, because its irrelevant. Range rover don't compare their mpg with Ferrari's either. Some more points:
- AR -> almost point dmg - HMG -> area of dmg
So if AR user are precision it is ok, if HMG can take enemy around boxes (NOT THRU IT! ground/wall/etc) it is ok. Ingame DPS/weapon/dropsuit/tactics are comparable.
If you want more differences in CPU/PG CCP can make move like in the Eve.
I explain now: Some weapon/modules request lets say 1000 CPU (normal around 40CPU). Some ships (here dropsuit or vehicles) can reduce this usage about 99.9%. This give CCP 100% sure that ppl use it right and in special conditions.
Why not here? Kids have problem with simple math and this is sad but true. So probably they decides that things here must be simple. Bye bye complexity

Keep in mind that HMGs also deal significantly reduced damage to shields while ARs have no such disadvantage. |
