What we are spending our time in is a core shooter mechanics/server stability/client stability bughunting testbed. There's 3 major builds to go until release.
We are not playing DUST 514. In fact, we don't even know what DUST 514 looks like, and we are essentially clueless as to what the deep game dynamics will be. |

You do realise, as the OP has previously stated. We are more than a year into development and this game is no better than a basic FPS shooter with multiple network/software issues.
ONE YEAR IN BETA (that should stand out). How can you defend this? If this was any other company, do you think the people in charge would still be in charge? Probably not, this same issue has happened at large development companies and "creative differences" were cited and the person moved to a different area.
Am I calling for heads... nope. But you'd think after YEARS of development this game would have progressed faster. While CCP has made some baffling decisions regarding the order in which they implement the game's features and almost certainly started bringing us beta players into the fold too early, Dust is probably a particularly challenging bit of software to develop. It's not like Bungie ever had to worry about balancing intricate RPG elements or accidentally breaking a ten year old MMO while making Halo. Also, has everyone forgotten how fundamentally broken the previous builds were? I haven't had a hard lock, invalid fitting bug, or bout of crippling lag in quite a while.
The build is stale. You're extra bored with it due to the SP grind. Calm down. hit detection sucks infinite drop-suit loading bug internal errors blue shields lag lag lag lag ...and this is exactly why I don't want any new features until core gameplay shines. More new features for players to moan about and drama over and be a general resource drain on the developers is not what DUST needs.
DUST needs to become a fps first, rather than the functional-but-frankensteinian patchwork of components it is now. All else is cart-before-the-horse fail waiting to happen.
As far as i'm concerned CCP's focus is the correct one - more features right now is poison. Ofc, i know the case i'm trying to make here is hopeless, and they're prolly gonna buckle to all this wailing and do the wrong thing. I just hope they don't buckle too much.
P.S. - If Bungie ever seriously contemplated tackling the engineering, design and coding project that CCP has taken on, after a bit of study and reflection, i am sure they would run away screaming. Is Destiny going to be single shard? |

DUST needs to become a fps first, rather than the functional-but-frankensteinian patchwork of components it is now. All else is cart-before-the-horse fail waiting to happen. CCP has spent a year trying to become an FPS first, if you haven't noticed, they are still trying. Most of us "get the FPS right" guys haved moved on to "give us more content" because we have become accustomed to bad hit detection etc.
Most of you have moved on to 'give us more content' because you have run out of patience, but not for any valid technical reason. Against what scale did you guys calibrate your expectations in the first place? This is an unique and pioneering venture, connected to another unique and pioneering venture.
That impatience is a fatal error, as far as the future of DUST and New Eden is concerned. It's the mistake that was made with EVE, adding more unfinished, unpolished code to the existing unfinished, unpolished code.
This is such an obvious recipe for disaster I'm mystified as to why I have to argue it here. Has impatience disabled rational thought?
